About the Author

A military brat born and raised at Ft. Benning Georgia; Smith is an avid reader, reviewer and writer. She now calls Texas home from her small town on the outskirts of the DFW Metroplex. Most days you can find her curled up with her kindle and a good book alongside a glass of something aged and red or a steaming cup of coffee! At 42 years young, she's decided to enter the next phase of her life by adding the title of "author" to her list of accomplishments that includes single mom of three disturbingly outspoken and decidedly different kids, one of which is Autistic. Smith is and outspoken advocate for Autism and equal rights for the LGBTQ community. Her Opposites series is based outside the normal parameters of social acceptability, examining a 'what if'... What If to be gay or lesbian were the norm? What if to be straight labeled you as an Opposite and made YOU the Outkast? Recently, Smith has begun work on a new series that is set within the world of online gay porn.

So I have mixed feelings about this story. I am going to rate it a 2.5 star but I have to be honest that is a generous rating. This story felt like it was missing parts, there were too many time jumps and the conflict resolution was just way too simple -- there was no angst or passion. Was there sex, yes, it's based on men who shoot GFY porn so of course there was a lot of sex. It almost felt like I was reading someone's journal, very one-sided and simplistic. It just didn't hold my attention.
I did finish the book because I like to see what happens - but even the ending felt anticlimactic.
Then let's talk about the subject matter of underage drinking, vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated, attempted drugging, and a character having been drugged and date raped. Yeah, all those topics are thrown in this book - without a warning and none of them are dealt with in the seriousness that they are..which immediately just turned me off - put a warning on the book if you are going to write about trigger subjects.

I had high hopes for this story. It was actually a recommendation I came across so I jumped at the bit.
Let's just say this story fell flat. The author does have the ability to write. It was the way the story was written is what left it not good for me.

The entire book consisted of 80% Telling us what happened at a very fast paced speed. If you are having book conversations they should be shown not told. This book was full of telling, telling and more telling and when they showed it was very little. I almost put the book down because of this. However, I pushed through because I genuinely like the plot of this book, even if it wasn't developed enough or gave me enough to be truly invested in the characters.

Linc in the book likes Chris from the beginning and then you later find out all of a sudden Chris likes Linc. However, there has been zero build to this. It was like wham, now they're crushing on each other. Then they're suddenly together and in love, with little details or parts that make them feel like a couple. It just didn't make much sense.

Yes, there is sex. But even if it is a showing, it's not done well enough IMO to give you a true feeling of the emotions and hotness. I didn't hot and bothered at all in this story. Which is what I expect when I read a book like this. I actually didn't feel much at all for any of the character because you don't know anything about them. One second one is jealous but you don't get it because there has been no development behind these feelings.

Honestly, it was an attempt at a promising story with a unique and thrilling plot- that just ended up drowning in the gutter.

I wouldn't recommend this story.

But I would read more from this author in hopes that their other books were better. I truly do think if the author had spent time fleshing out this book and showing me more, I would have fell in love with it. Sadly, I did not.

I almost skipped reading this one because of the title. (Insert grimacing emoji here) Which sounds awful but what is worse is that I could have missed out on a fun, and highly arousing read because of it. And that would have been a complete blunder on my part because it's a great story. I loved Chris and Linc's romance in Gay for Pay.

Chris made one enormous mistake which completely altered the course of his life. Unwilling to forgive himself for the error, his life has essentially been on hold for years. He has no family or career, and he definitely doesn't have a love life. It's really quite sad. He has no clue when he makes a decision out of desperation that it will end up being exactly what he needs to move forward and heal.

All it takes is Chris becoming Kris - a gay male porn star.

You'd think it would be awkward. A straight man pretending to be gay but it was actually really freaking hot. Because it wasn't about sexual orientation - it was about passion and feeling good. It was completely erotic.

Chris gets the difference between being gay and feeling aroused because of physical simulation. However, all of that changes whenever he is around Linc - a bi-sexual coworker. He fantasizes about being with him and has new urges - ones that never emerged until they meet. (I squealed the first time they gave into their attraction for one another.) As their relationship progresses, it was all very intense and quite the journey for these two.

It is AWESOME.

I thought Gay for Pay was an amazing book and incredibly entertaining. The plot was creative and the characters were definitely interesting plus it's fast paced and I read it in one sitting. I would absolutely recommend purchasing this book - although, I would probably read it at home.

My Review:
I really liked this book. I wasn't sure because I'd never read this author before, but I read a good review so picked it up on a whim. I'm so glad that I did.

Five years ago, Chris made the biggest mistake of his life...driving when drunk. It killed his girlfriend/fiancee, ruined his football career, and alienated almost his entire support system who couldn't forgive him for his stupid mistake...including his own family. He's sleeping on his best friend Michael's couch. Michael was the only person who stood by him, but with a criminal conviction on his record, it's hard to find a job. He's at rock bottom both mentally and with his life when he sees the flyer for becoming a porn star. What does he have to lose?

The thing I really love about this book is not only Chris...he's a great angst-filled hero. But the company he goes to work for is fabulous...owned by a triad of men who are committed to taking care of their models/stars. This quickly becomes a place where Chris is accepted and feels like home to him...something he hasn't had in 5 years. I liked the way that it was all set up and hope that this is truly the way places like CockyBoys are...because looking in from the outside, it seems like they might be. I would imagine that porn could be a really difficult place to work without that camaraderie between the players in it.

And I really loved the way the romance between Chris and Linc developed. They were two of the last to hook up on film. That worked for me. What also worked for me was that Chris didn't suddenly decide...wow, he likes cock. No, the story went into how difficult it was for him to become sexually active with a person who he didn't feel that attraction to...i.e. guys. This is purely a gay-for-you story.
