I misplaced this tool recently and bought a set of snap ring pliers for half the price. Big mistake as the tips on one of the pliers bent on first use, and the second pliers I tried bent at the arms past the pivot point. Ordered another GearWrench 2012D and got the job done.
Putting in brand new or cleaned snap rings with this tool is a piece of cake.
This tool does not come with straight tips but it looks like Channellock 927T tip kit will work with the tool and contains straight tips.
The smaller of the three tips that come with GW 2012D is still fairly large and won't fit smaller snap rings. I would get something like Channellock 927T for the smaller tips, alternatively grinding the tips down is probably a viable option although the tips are larger at the very ends to aid in grabbing the snap rings.
