From the manufacturer
GearWrench introduced the original patented five-degree ratcheting wrench in 1996. The innovation didn’t stop there. Year after year, the GearWrench brand continues to expand its line—in ratcheting tools and beyond!
Pass Through Socket System
The pass through sockets from GearWrench works even where deep sockets won't -- so you don't need two sets of sockets any more. Each pass-through socket replaces one deep and standard socket, and the pass-through system works over long threaded rod where normal ratchets and sockets won't fit.
The special GearRatchet handles are up to 50% thinner than conventional ratchet systems allowing the user to get more access to hard to reach places. The included adapters allows you to also work with any standard square drive sockets ensuring maximum versatility.
Get enhanced productivity from the GearWrench standard 5° Ratcheting arc vs. 2º on conventional ratchets. Strength is also improved by up to 40% by elimination of the tang from the drive system.
Pass-Thru ratchet and socket system eliminates the need for deep sockets.

UPDATE: As expected the "lifetime" warranty is useless. Apex Tool Group says I have to return it where I bought it and Amazon says it's outside the 30-day return window to be able to return it. So if purchased on Amazon, the "lifetime" warranty is 30-days. So now the ratchet set is useless garbage unless I go to the expense of purchasing another ratchet to replace the defective original. Gearwrench has a nice scam going on this one.
UPDATE #2: I was finally able to get through to a helpful person at Apex Tool Group. My defective ratchet was replaced under warranty. You still have to pay to ship the item back to them to evaluate so it can be a hassle. Revising to 3 stars from 1.
This socket set is much slimmer than your standard socket/ratchet combo. The ratchet head swivels for better positioning. The passthrough feature on the socket allows for studs to pass through the socket so your ratchet sits closer to the fastener. The torque goes into loosening the bolt, not into rounding it off. The sockets are 6-point which helps prevent rounding the bolt head as well. The handle is longer than your standard 3/8 inch ratchet so you can apply more torque to your stuck fastener. If you're worried that this is a specialty item, it comes with an adapter that allows you to attach any 3/8 inch drive socket to the ratchet, albeit without the passthrough system.
Overall, I highly recommend this tool set. I wish I bought it a long time ago.
Here are my observations that might be useful to potential buyers:
The thickest part of the handle is pretty close to exactly one inch thick, so it definitely fits inside a 1" steel gas pipe to use as a cheater bar.
The 3/8" and 1/4" adapters are designed in such a way that they cannot be used with the included extension. So if you need to use an extension on them, you can't use the one that comes with this. You can't go ratchet-extension-adapter-socket. You have to go ratchet-adapter-extension-socket, using a 3/8" (or 1/4") extension of your own.
Also, it's true that the ratchet clicks are 5 degrees apart, however, there is enough play between clicks that you really have to move it about 10 degrees to get it to click over to the next stop. But that's kind of how all other ratchets I've used have been and I was just hoping this would be better.
All are minor issues. I'm still happy with it. The case is pretty good, too. It's not like the kind of thing that's meant to be pretty for display in the store but impractical to actually use and then takes up unnecessary space. It's concise and efficient. The sockets aren't held in by anything other than the lid and don't fit tightly into their spaces, which is fine because the lid stays shut when you want it shut.
Overall: 5/5 stars
