I'm pretty late to playing this one. Gears of War has been one of my favorite video game series since I got the first one on the old Xbox 360 back when. It has become tradition for me to coop this with someone on the hardest available difficulty so I can hit the ground running on the single player which this review will primarily be about.

While I know that Coalition paid a lot of attention to the multiplayer as a lot of game developers do these days I was very satisfied with the main campaign. Gameplay is largely the same as it was for the early titles. Gears has always been a shooting gallery with cover tactic mechanics but its among the best shooting galleries you'd find out there on the market. New additions to the single player like a tower defense mode against AI wave attacks. Some new interesting weapons are added to the roster but the classics are also brought back in (torque bow FTW).

Two decades after the eradication of the Locust in the third game, the fourth begins with humanity still trying to rebuild after the devastating war. While the COG and other surviving human groups are trying to get their bearings they find themselves under attack again by a new unknown enemy. You take on the role of James Fenix, son of the series long protagonist Marcus who with his entourage tries to figure out who the new enemy is and how to beat them. I liked the campaign story, I felt there was some fanservice but that's not too big a deal. My biggest qualm with it is the game seemingly trying to state that these new enemies are definitely, totally, not the Locust at all. Even though they basically are but that's just a nitpick. It didn't take away from the fun for me.

The visuals are good, the story had me invested toward the end, the gameplay was fine tuned for it's type and overall I really enjoyed this title. Where they go from here I'm pretty eager to see.

I've played Gears since the beginning. The campaigns made these games. There's a few things that made it special - (1.) odd, clunky, slow 3PS controls, (2.) ultra-gritty, ultra-gore, hyper-masculine art style (very much a Cliff Bleszinski game), (3.) the epic, apocalyptic story/cinematic set pieces, and (4.) super memorable characters due to great, often witty dialogue and incredible voice-acting. The level and character art was dark, creepy, with many horror aspects. The story was simple and compelling.

Gears 4, well, Gears 4 starts off with the a character giving a monologue on butterflies, and I immediately knew something was off. Gears 4 basically keeps only (1.), with the addition of some gimmicky mechanics that serve only to overcomplicate what has always been a clumsy game to control. There are a lot of new characters, none of them memorable. The dialogue is cringe-inducing and the voice acting completely forgettable. The gameplay itself is lacking the visceral "oomph" of the predecessors: there is no tension, no mood, the colors are too bright, the gunshots, explosions, and even the chainsawing somehow less satisfying.

Much like the new Star Wars sequels, this game is graphically amazing, but completely lacks the soul of the originals.

The story mode is awesome it has a split screen multi player. Just be warned if you live out side of the United States you might not be able to redeem the down load codes for the other three games, I live in the Bahamas and it would not allow me to redeem the codes.

First off, this is a great game, it is a game worth owning for the Xbox One if you do not have a beefy PC or simply want to play on console without having to spend a certain amount, there is always sweet bundles. Anyways lets start with the negatives, if you are coming from Gears of War 3 or Judgment, there isn't much "new" in this game or a significant change compared to the other games, good or bad depends entirely on you. I personally didn't mind since the campaign in this game is very good and I had a great time, the levels are diverse and really can get intense when new enemies arise.
The other issue with the game is the multiplayer is the same as well, even Horde mode, the problem I am pointing out, even though its a lot of fun, the problem is if you have played the other games, it will all feel the same as usual, especially Horde mode which i cant get into anymore since it feels the same as Gears of War 3.
Other then that, this is a pretty solid game, it also includes local coop so if you want to play through the game offline, go for it! You can also join up with someone online if you don't have someone to play with locally. The multiplayer, while the same, has some new modes that are fantastic, one that is my favorite is dodgeball, where you have one life and you can only revive teammates if you kill the opposing team, but if you die, you can only be revived if your teammates kill the other players, this goes on until either team is fully eliminated, so if you are the only player and kill 2 of the opposing team and survive, two more teammates come back to help out.
Another mode is like gungame in COD, where you have a weapon and with each kills, you obtain a new weapon, now there is a catch, you work with other teammates, so if you work together and have 3 kills for each weapon, you move up together. Another new mode for competitive mode which is separate from social multiplayer modes is escalation which is a long version on annex.
For gameplay additions, you can jump over cover if you hold the sprint button and tap on the b button to vault over it and not lose momentum. If you have another player on the other side of the wall, you can press X to pull that opposing player to your side and press Y to do an execution or you can shotgun the player, your choice.
The campaign will last you sometime, and its very enjoyable, this game is the complete package when it comes to content, but if you are starting to just purchase this title, be warned that you will have to download a significant amount of memory, around 70GB since new maps are placed and are free....sort of.
I hope this review kind of helps give you an idea of what this title brings, it is a killer app for the Xbox One in my opinion, and you can not go wrong with this game, especially the price its going for and the DLC maps being free instead of being charged for each map pack like other titles.

Great game! Graphics and sound are incredible. I have it connected to my home theater with Dolby Atmos enabled and the sound is the best I've experienced to date. Game play is excellent. It offers a challenge but not incredible difficult. So far my son and I are loving it.

This is the game that redeems Gears for Judgement.

Campaign is enthrolling, compelling and keeps you wanting to come back to play more. Characters are well developed, old and new. Took me about 7 and 1/2 hours to beat campaign on hardcore, collecting all the collectibles.

Horde mode is redone and for the better. With the introduction of class systems, it motivates the players to play a particular role in the waves. Soldier, heavy, scout,sniper, or engineer. Each gets bonuses towards doing specific jobs. This mode is what kept me coming back to play more and more.

Overall I have to give Gears of War 4 a 9/10. Just a great addition to the whole game.

BONUS: You get DLC for Gears 1,2,3, and judgement included in this game. that's 5 games for price of one

Gears is back! If Judgement left you unsatisfied, this is a refreshing return to the Gears franchise. The campaign mode while not as good as those seen in the 1st year Gears game still tells a very good story and it is very nice to see some old favorites return. The campaign is fairly lengthy, and more so, if you play it on Hardcore or Insane Difficulty---with ACT III probably the hardest.

While the campaign is awesome, most people come to Gears for the multi-player and this is where the game shines. While TDM is still mostly a Gnasher and Lancer fest, other muli-player modes strongly encourage, or force you to use other weapons.

Horde mode is back, and again you will have fun trying to survive to Wave 50---even on Casual and with a good squad of team-mates this is no easy feat---and becomes darn near impossible on the hardest difficulties.

If you are a fan of the franchise, you will love this game. If you are new to Gears this is a good entry point as this game will almost certainly be the start of a new trilogy of games.

Excelente juego, y le precio al que lo agarre fue el mejor a mi parecer (unos $350 aprox) con envío gratis al siguiente día con Amazon prime, la verdad es un muy buen juego, gráficas excelentes y compatible con escalado a 4k y HDR (si tienes xbox one s), el juego lo compre cuando recién salió y pague precio completo con un revendedor, lamentablemente mi vieja consola siempre se trababa con este juego y terminé vendiéndolo y ahora aquí lo encontré a un excelente juego, el miltijugador es muy bueno, el modo horda bastante desafiante y adictivo, una campaña decente mas no espectacular, pero sobre todo tiene juego cooperativo y miltijugador local, en general es un buen título si lo encuentras por debajo de $600.

Gears of War 4 solo va escalando en intensidad desde los primeros minutos de juego , claro que como todos los juegos de Gears es

This is a great game. My biggest gripe would be that it is a little too familiar from the other Gears and does not innovate much. But this was the first project by a new developer (The Coalition) who had a huge task as their first project. I don't think any Gears fan would be disappointed from this first effort and the developer brings out free updates and maps every month. Competitive multiplayer is a blast but it is difficult and punishing for new players to Gears. The key to success in this game is not the shooting, it is the movement system and there is a lot more to it than meets the eye.

If you want a free copy for PC, then you have to purchase the digital copy -- I made this mistake.
