Gears of War Ultimate is the Ultimate Gears game that shaped 3rd person genre.

What is there to say? If you loved the Original Gears of War and moved on to X1, its a must have game to own, its really the Ultimate edition, it has the extra DLC the PC version had, polished up the bugs and using new graphical engine, models, textures etc
So not only its the loved classic but has more SP content (Single Player content is the only that matters unlike cheap MP maps that any 3 year old can make), less bugs and its looking the best, yep even better then the original PC version (and I actually played it to know).
BUT ill be 100% honest with you, IF you played the original and IF you are a normal adult person and not MP OCD kid ie you Enjoy Single Player games, game stories, game worlds etc and you dont buy your games to play MP matches for months to come with against pea brain millennial teens AND it happens that you also own a good gaming PC, then DONT buy this game wait for the SUPERIOR PC version (PCMR) that will come early 2016.
If you one of the poor souls that Never played gears one because your too young or too dumb to enjoy one of the greatest last gen games in History that actually and realistically shaped the 3rd person shooter genre, CLICK BUY IT NOW, NOW!
You wont be sorry, i guarantee you'll like the game! AND if it happens that you also own a PC, then buy the Xbox one game now, play the game and then buy the PC version when its on sale on Steam and play it gain.
I recommend gaming in 4K, that will change your perspective on gaming and make you hate consoles, it did for me, so now my X1 and PS4 are EXCLUSIVE machines only, meaning that its for games that have no PC version or wont have one in the next year (Like Rise of the Tomb Raider for example, it was worth the wait to get a MUCH superior, SUPREME version this January 2016)

P.S. I actually own the X1 Digital version, got it on sale here on amazon for 20$, Why you ask? Well the answer is simple: Anyone who got any edition of Gears of War Ultimate BEFORE 2016 and PLAYED it at least once, got EVERY OTHER gears of war game for FREE!!!
Yep, Microsoft sends you a 4 vouchers for all 4 Xbox 360 Gears Games (including Gears 1), and yes these are the Backwards Xbox One compatible editions, not the old X360 versions, just for the games no MP DLC.

Having played Gears of war since the first one when i got an xbox in 2007 I have seen the series up's and downs (Gears 2). Having heard about this game I was so psyched to get to play most played game on xbox again on xbox one, it has only taken me 3 days to realise what a mistake I have made.

Story mode is same as always, redone cutscenes look great and its the same story we all played years ago. Despite the single player being good it is comparatively short, where this game shines is its multiplayer; oh dear.

What can I say about this multiplayer, having played across 4 of the previous games extensively this is one of the worst online experiences I have ever had on xbox live. If you have any competitive side at all the online will be hell, the shotgun online - the staple weapon which made the series so much fun is one of the most random gun's you will ever experience in a video game. Players will eat lead and moments later snipe you from miles away despite yourself having a clean low ping connection to servers. This doesn't happen rarely, this is almost every death. The fact they had a beta and is a remake and still managed to balls this up is heart breaking. Much like the halo series remake it is a clear cash grab to fans where development was rushed in order to get it out the door for the planned release window so they could move onto Gears 4. When a game is so fundamentally this broken with damage inconsistencies online it is clear patch's will not be able to fix what is a mess in the core of the game that even the original didn't experience somehow. Now I'm stuck with a digital copy gutted knowing I can't get my money back and I have now got dead game on my hard drive.

If you want to play for the single player go ahead its a great (but short) blast for 6-8 hours but if you play for the multiplayer do not even bother even if your a hardcore fan and it really is a shame to say this.

Well back to backwards compatibility for me.

I had Gears of War 1, 2 and 3 on the Xbox 360, but never finished any of them. When I saw the offer of receiving BC versions of 2, 3 and Judgement with the purchase of this remastered version of Gears of War, I decided it was worth it. My thinking was mainly based around our son being too young to play these games back when I had them on the 360, but he's now playing Call of Duty games, so I thought this Gears of War would be good for us to play together.

The bad thing is my review is a little late. I bought it on December 26th, then went directly online with it to make sure I would receive the codes for the BC games. Believe the cutoff date was December 31st. I was starting to wonder if I had missed the cutoff date, but received my codes in mid-January to download 2, 3 and Judgement. The parts I have played so far in the remastered version of the original are very good. I'm not really into the war/shooting games except for Fallout and GTA, but this has been a welcome surprise.

The code itself is legit, for anyone new to buying digital codes for games through Amazon. You will need to link a credit card to your account to be able to buy any digital codes, but you don't need to charge the credit card. Prepaid gift cards come up as an option after linking a credit card.

I do most spending from gift cards because I do not trust how Amazon sometimes randomly charges my credit card.

As for the game itself, I'm a huge Gears of War fan. Have owned every one of them (Judgement included sadly) and I've got to say this is a great purchase, but purchase this only when the price has been reduced. It's just as the name suggests, Gears of War 1 with improved graphics and a few features added from Gears of War 3/Judgement.

Weapon skins are in the game, the format for the lives remaining is just like Gears of War 3/Judgement, but everything else is ultimately just like the first game. Recommended highly if on sale, if not, wait it out.
