5.0 out of 5 stars Great case for Raspberry PI 4
By Jan on July 24, 2019
Love these kinds of cases, and glad to find one out for the Pi 4.

A few thoughts:

1) The fan RED wire plugs into pin #2 (corner most pin), 5V, and the BLACK wire plugs into pin #6 (Ground). I found the fan was a bit noisy, so I ended up plugging the RED wire into pin 1 (below the corner one) (3.3V), and this made it much quieter, but still cooled great.

2) You CAN NOT have a Heat sink on the main chip and have the fan mounted as they describe (it blocks the fan from spinning and the whole rig overheats). INSTEAD - Install the fan on the OUTSIDE of the case, and run the wires through the GPIO slot. This will allow you to keep the heat sink on both chips, and yet cool the rig effectively. See pics for how it worked for me.

Hope that helps.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really slick case kit
By Emily Osburn on August 3, 2019
tl;dr: In my mind, for getting the tiny fan, case, and heatsinks, this is a steal

I got my Pi4 today and went to put it in the case. There is another review saying that the fan won't clear the heatsink, but I suspect the purchaser used an alternative heatsink rather than the one that came with this case. The heatsinks that come with the kit all work as intended. A note on the heatsinks, is that for installation, it suggests applying the heatsinks before putting some of the layers on. There is one black layer which will interfere with a heatsink depending on placement. I would recommend having this layer (#4, counting from bottom-up) on before putting the heatsinks on.
The main SoC heatsink is tiny and thing compared to the adafruit heatsink I used passively on my 3B+. That one was probably almost 5/8" tall and barely cleared the adafruit case. I think I typically saw 60C temps when running in my enclosed cabinet. These are preliminary temps, but the fan seems to make a huge difference. Despite the heatsink size difference, I'm seeing temps of 50C on the 4B when running the same applications and load. Fan at 5V is quiet enough I will never hear it unless it is sitting next to me on my desk. (Note: my temperature measurements were not scientifically performed)

I took some liberties with the installation process away from the manual's suggestions. The first is the aforementioned order of heatsink application. The next is where I put the case screws in upside down. The booklet suggests you have the screwhead on the top of the case, and the nuts on the bottom. This makes it much harder to remove just the top panel if needed. As such, I swapped the screws around, so I could remove the nuts and one plate at a time from the top.
Lastly, I added some felt pads at the bottom. No matter the screw orientation, you're either going to have the nuts or the screw head on your table surface. Putting separate pads will help keep that from scratching your counter or desk.

All in all I'm very impressed with this kit and I think it's a novel way to quickly produce and assemble cases without the time and money for proper fully molded models.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic and stylish case!
By Arcade Ren on July 26, 2019
The Raspberry Pi 4 being a new board does not have a lot of options yet for cases. I have used this style case before on my 3B+ and I loved it too. Very sturdy acrylic used here, and heat sinks are excellent. For $10 I cannot believe how good a deal this is! The fan is whisper quiet in 3.3v mode and temps on my Pi never go over 60c at full load with Seti@home. Ambient temps in the house are 72F / 22c.

My only feedback for the maker is to include rubber feet of some sort. Luckily I had some so I added my own but the product really should have come with them. Despite that, I would purchase this case again.

Also, despite what others have said here the heat sinks work perfectly with the fan on the inside of the case. Not sure what others were doing but it works perfectly, fear not!

3.0 out of 5 stars Looks cheap but works pretty well.
Reviewed in Canada on May 2, 2020
Materials look quite cheap and not what was advertised. The plastic is semi opaque and just doesn't look that great. Kit is also a nightmare to assemble and came with no instructions. However it does work well and keeps the pi cool, so if you don't care about aesthetics or getting frustrated while putting it together then go for it.
