I bought this product because I have a mid-2008 Macbook Pro with the older DVI external display port and the Apple sales consultant I talked to recommended this specific product as a solution for converting mini-port to DVI. However, even if it *did* work for my Macbook Pro and the 27" LED display, it would be limited to 1900 x 1200 resolution. However, nary a pixel even lit up on the display, remained dark when I connected to my Macbook. I even talked to Apple technical support and walked through all of the steps to resolve the issue. But nothing worked, nor did they pick up on the fact that the Gefen is an incompatible product with the 27" LED display.
Gefen technical support said they will have a new product in a couple of months to work with the 27" display, and maybe even a hardware fix for current converters. I give Gefen three stars only because it did not work for my needs, but their support was 5-star. I give Apple 1-star review for (1) recommending an incompatible product and (2) not having a tested third-party product for those of us with older Macbooks, and mine is only 2 years old as of this writing. For Gefen, I thought they provided the stronger level of support and actually gave me the correct answer.
There's one glitch, but it's just a minor one: the brightness can't be controlled using the Apple keyboard's brightness buttons. Instead, I had to download a small from Gefen's web site. The app seems to work fine.
I'm happy to have this device for 1/4 of the original list price, and I'm impressed with Blinq's speedy response to my order: they got the package to me in two days.
it works & does the trick, maybe , they made a new version and the glitch has been fixed.
not unhappy, it works
