This book is just what the title indicates-- a BASIC introduction to genealogy. The author covers all the major topics of genealogy in a quick overview of the subject. She even includes information on genetic genealogy. However, this is not an in-depth "how to" book, but rather an introduction for either the beginner or somewhat experienced researcher wanting a review. At 93 pages, it may take longer than 30 minutes to read but any genealogist knows that once you start on the topic, it's difficult to quit! Highly recommended.

My sister, who is more in the local history realm, read it immediately and really loved it! She said the advice was great, and the tone was friendly and approachable. And it actually does pretty much take 30 minutes to read. I read it too as I was vetting some intro-level books recently, and it was the one I chose for this purpose. Good "quick start" for genealogy research

It's not a complete reference book, but it was enough to give me the confidence to tackle my family history project and get started. Great for a beginner!

I managed my various family trees at Ancestry without it, but from the book found out there are free services (that I haven't visited but like knowing about) and the book convinced me to get going on finding documents.
