What a waste of my time researching for the right product, assembling it (30 minutes) and reading the manual. It is junk if it fails in 5 minutes, in my book. Now I'll have to drain the oil and gas and pack it back up and ship to Amazon, THEN more research and purchase something else.
UPDATE: I forgot initially that I put only a small amount of gas in the washer (so I didn't have to drain to ship back). My eyesight is poor, and I didn't see that the tank emptied after a few minutes. My bad! So the washer has worked great for the 2 hours or so that I have used it.
I called GENERAC and they said I needed to send it to one of their certified mechanics. The nearest mechanic was a 2 hour drive one way. Making it a 4 hour trip for myself and 8 hours if I needed to leave it (making a return trip to pick it up)for examination and go through the warranty process. When I asked them about the black oil, they could not answer my question. They basically said it was a good unit when they shipped it out and what happened to it afterwards was not their responsibility. This was sold as a brand new unit and I was told I needed to go through the warranty process, I see something wrong with this thought process.
Amazon sent my second unit as a replacement. I again went through the included manual and set it up as described. This time I added the new clear and clean oil and it obviously took more to fill it up. I believe this was a new unit. As I was putting it together, I noticed it did not have a on/off switch. It was wired for one, but the switch was missing. I attached an on/off switch. I connected it to a water supply, filled it up with fresh fuel and it started on the first pull. Wonderful, I thought. Pulled the trigger and the pressure barely increased. No pressure. The pressure was the same no matter what nozzles you used.
Called GENERAC, got the same dog and pony show as before. I asked to talk to a mechanic to check if there was something minor I could do. The customer service gave the same answers as they did previously. Not our problem was the basic answer. I ask them if they tested the motors, they said yes. I told them it is hard to test the pressure washer without a ON/OFF switch. The answer I got was to refer to a certified mechanic.
I was referred to two of GENERAC's certified mechanics. The first told me they did not work on GENERAC products with pumps. When asked if they had troubles with the GENERAC pressure washers, the second mechanic said "Sometimes you get what you pay for." CUSTOMERS BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY, poor customer service, poor quality control.
I've been using ths pressure washer for a year now and the only gripes I have had are: 1.The on/off switch was unplugged out of the box. Easy fix. Just push them on. I noticed this while checking out the back of the panel and pressure selector. 2. I had to route the soap tank tube. Not really an issue just plug each end into it's respective orfaces. TIP use some zip ties and run it along the frame.
I could not be more happy with this uint. I will be turing to GENERAC for my generator needs soon!!!
