The item was received promptly and assembled easily. I was a bit worried that it's got a lot of plastic parts, including the "bolts" that hold the handle in place. The hanger for the hose is a very thin and undersized space to hold the hose.
Followed the instructions perfectly. I'm no stranger to pressure washers, air compressors, mowers, and other small engines. This was atrocious to get started. Once it finally started running, it would die within 10 seconds. Eventually I figured out that if I keep spraying it would stay running, but the pressure was too low even set on max. My house water pressure at the nozzle and end of a 100ft hose measures at 75 PSI with my tool (bought recently to rule out water pressure issues because of this). I adjusted my main pressure down to 55 PSI and used a 25 ft hose and had the exact same issue. Can't get the damn thing started most of the time and I give up after 15-20 pulls.. instantly dies as soon as I stop spraying. There is no flushing of the thermal relief valve so I know it's not an overheating issue-- it can't be, it doesn't even run long enough to get hot.
Trying to get it started makes me worry I'm going to break it. It looks like I'm going to rip the engine out, so I can't imagine it would hold up to vibration and use for more than a month. It is a cheap engine, entire unit made in China. This isn't even Harbor Freight quality. I have an air compressor from HF that has lasted 4 years and still going strong, with rather heavy use at least once a week and usually stored at pressure. Let that sink in. Harbor Freight has put a better quality product than this $400 pressure washer. Generac is shipping lemons and has a horrible "QA" process, in addition to cheap materials and shoddy builds.
Don't let the pressure dial knob seduce you. You can buy those for $20 that attach to your hose and allow for regulating pressure just the same as this dial.
Generac customer support took several days to get back to me and just told me to take it to an authorized dealer for repair. It's BRAND NEW and needing to be evaluated and repaired? No thanks. It seems based on other reviews, even though this hasn't been used for a single job-- Generac will try to dodge their warranty and the repair costs will be out of pocket. I had also ordered this on my Discover card so it would extend the warranty for one year. The unit couldn't even make it one job.
The unit is going back for a full refund and I will absolutely never touch Generac again for pressure washers. They need to stick to generators. Do not buy into their hype, YouTube videos, or anything else that make this model seem attractive. It's falsely advertised and they do not stand behind their product or warranty.
Last annoying part about this was that within two days of buying it, the price dropped $40 and Amazon wouldn't price match. Not Generac's fault regarding the price match policy, but it seems odd: Home Depot has recently discontinued this model. As did Lowes. Then Amazon drops the price on it, seemingly trying to get rid of their stock.
UPDATE 1/7/17: I ended up buying a Ford pressure washer.. which I hated the idea of because I've never had positive results with Ford products (ie: cars, which I why I now own Toyota and Honda cars/vans). However, they seem to produce a pretty damn good pressure washer. It worked like a charm from the first use. I do dislike how they throw "Ford" logos all over it (6 or 7 of them), but it seems to be a good quality. 3100 PSI, thermal relief valve, etc. Everything I was hoping for in the Generac that failed/DOA. It took a long time of research to find a good one, and I looked at Costco, Home Depot, Lowes, Amazon, and several other vendors. The model selections they had are rather poor when it came to quality and longevity.. but I'm happy where I ultimately ended up.
There's also a good suggestion of: If you want to buy GREAT equipment, go see what Home Depot or Lowes will rent to you. They're built for abuse and to last. The problem is, they're often PRO level equipment that is expensive as all hell. Good advice for any equipment purchases if you'll be a heavy user, though.
I've been using ths pressure washer for a year now and the only gripes I have had are: 1.The on/off switch was unplugged out of the box. Easy fix. Just push them on. I noticed this while checking out the back of the panel and pressure selector. 2. I had to route the soap tank tube. Not really an issue just plug each end into it's respective orfaces. TIP use some zip ties and run it along the frame.
I could not be more happy with this uint. I will be turing to GENERAC for my generator needs soon!!!
