Power the fun stuff or cover an emergency with a Generac GP Series portable generator. Generac's GP6500 is ideal for tailgating, camping, power tool use, and emergency home backup power. It has a low-tone muffler for quieter operation and an hour meter that tracks usage between maintenance sessions. The low oil shutdown feature detects low oil levels and if found, shuts down the engine to prevent any damage. The unique fold down hands and never flat wheels allow for extreme portability, and the heavy duty hardened steel tube cradle gives the generator extra strength and durability. The new covered circuit breaker protected outlets provide added protection from the environment and rugged working conditions. Affordable reliability and features not usually found on basic portable models makes these units a favorite for home use, camping, job sites or outdoor events. Model 5940 is not CARB (can not ship to state of California) or CSA compliant.

i'd deduct a star for the noise, it's very loud... but what more could you ask from cheap portable reliable power??
After reading about the less than spectacular customer service from Generac, I first contacted Amazon customer service. The options they gave me was send it back or have it repaired at the nearest authorized dealer. I opted for the latter and four weeks later I have a generator in excellent condition. Amazon reimbursed me for the repairs (including delivery to/from the dealer) so I am completely satisfied with Amazon. I assume insurance will pay but ultimately the loss should be charged back to Generac because this product is not sufficiently packaged for shipment.
The bottom line is unless Generac changes the packaging don't expect to receive an undamaged product. Open and inspect everything before the shipper departs then either refuse delivery or have it repaired as I did.
Packaging issues aside the generator seems to do all it claims. I recently completed wiring it up to our house in preparation for the next multi-day power outage here in New England. I'll post back if things change after some real world usage but initial tests allowed me to run what I need to survive: water pump, oil furnace, deep freezer, refrigerator, and plenty of lights. Oh yes, and some entertainment too: 46" LCD TV and a PC.
