Book Description

May 22, 2009
Megan Nicolay revolutionized the T-shirt. She repurposed it, reinterpreted it, reinvented it―and created the #1 craft book in the nation, Generation T, which continues to dominate. Now she explores new ways to slash a tee, scrunch a tee, and sew a tee with Generation T: Beyond Fashion. A collection of 120 projects for every occasion, it takes the humble yet ever-malleable tee in dozens of new directions―from baby gifts to pet accessories, stuff for the home, the car, the road, the boyfriend.

The rallying cry is: Don't buy; DIY. The result is hip, imaginative, crafty, and very green. There's a basic primer on techniques―knotting, sewing, braiding, lacing―plus a full tutorial on embellishing. And then an amazing range of projects. There’s fashion, of course: all-new halters and tank tops, sexy gaucho pants, a baby-doll dress, twisted shrug, and hooded scarf. But also baby gifts: Jumper for Joy, Baby Back Bib, Wild Thing Blankie. Home décor: plant hanger, wine cozy, toilet seat cover, ruffled apron, and Spastic Plastic (grocery tote). Grill mitts and bolo ties for the guys, doggie tee and stuffed cat toys, a steering wheel cover for the car, the Ants Go Marching (picnic blanket), and Beach Bum (beach caddy). Projects range from the simplest no-sew to intermediate, and all have easy-to-follow illustrated directions―plus, how to throw your own Tee Party.

Time to get your craft on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better the 2nd time around November 24, 2009
Format:Paperback
I purchased the first book Generation T: 108 Ways to Transform a T-Shirt a while back to use with my students, and we did quite a few projects out of it and my students really enjoyed it. On a whim, I purchased the second book for myself and spent 12 hours the next day tearing up t-shirts and turning them into new, fun, useful things. This book still has many ways to alter t-shirts into other wearables or "better" tops (some of which were in the first book) including a chapter specifically for the guys, but it also goes beyond wearables to things you can make and use around the house, in the car, for your kids, for your pets, and some great accessories. I have planned out half of my christmas list from ideas provided in this book, especially because its cheap, easy, and a lot of fun for me to make. If you're torn between the first and the second, I'd suggest Gen T 2.

5.0 out of 5 stars More stuff than the last book and cooler!! October 23, 2009
By Ruby D.
Format:Paperback
Her first book was great, I have to say that this one is even better! for beginner's thru talented crafter's there is something for all in this book, fun hip girl stuff and if your guy has out grown his favorite vintage/ band/sports team shirt there are ways to transform it for him into a brand new cool shirt, save money on kids clothes by transforming their favorite too small to wear pieces into the cutest dresses or romper outfits and soft toys, pet toys and outfits made from your t-shirts! household linens, bags, scarves, the list goes on and on.... the book is worth more than the $11.00 it costs, you will save a bundle redesigning your t's into hip outfit's. Here's the best part, the diagrams and instructions are so easy to follow and you do not even need a sewing machine for the projects. This book has color photo's too, Get this book for yourself or a holiday gift for any-one that sews, knits or crafts.

5.0 out of 5 stars A DIY Must Have January 19, 2010
By Ghuy'
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
As a serious DIY clothing repurposer, I ordered yet another book, hoping to get a few projects from it. I was blown away by all the useful things one can do with a T-shirt. Not only are the projects presented in a way everyone can understand, but she gives you tips on how to hand-sew, make knots, weave, braid, etc. Everything from fashion to home furnishings and crafts are featured. The variations on each project make this book great for both the beginner as well as the experienced DIY enthusiast.

5.0 out of 5 stars Possibly better than Megan's first book September 10, 2009
By Carmen
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
More great t-shirt recon ideas, with an even better variety than Megan's first book. Great, easy-to-follow instructions. You absolutely do not need to be an expert seamstress to make these projects. Be aware, though, that this isn't high fashion; it is a ton of fun, however.

2.0 out of 5 stars not what i thought April 6, 2011
By Jake M.
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I thought there would be more modern ways to alter t-shirts. These may be okay for college kids on a budget, but I don't know too many who would wear these. The ones I do like with the split backs, etc are okay and my granddaughter likes them, but I doubt she'll be asking for any of the other things.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sister and I are slashing T shirts August 10, 2009
Format:Paperback
Very cool book. I have the first one too. Good instructions, minimal sewing experience is necessary for some projects. Makes me wish I had thousands of shirts to "remodel" because the projects are very fashionable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun ideas! February 22, 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book is full of cute and fun ideas to refashion t-shirts. The fashion ideas are much cuter than the ones in the author's previous book Generation T: 108 Ways to Transform a T-Shirt. This book also provides projects for baby gifts, which are especially well done. Also included are home decor items and pet projects. I am very glad I purchased this book! It has provided lots of sewing inspiration.

2.0 out of 5 stars mhhh February 26, 2016
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
In my opinion, this book would be best for a young teen attempting to find their creative voice. Or if you are the super artsy person. For the run of the mill every day person, the ideas presented are not ones that you would wear. I ended up gifting the books (I bought both titles for t-shirt transformation) to a friend who loves them. I guess I really depends on taste. For the run of the mill everyday person, this would not be your up of tea!
