Like most, I purchased this to convert my old vhs/dvds into digital media.
Product worked flawlessly. In conjunction with windows 8 laptop-easy NO problems.
Only had to disable laptop's cam as primary input. Now product lets me record analog into digital in seconds. Have used other converters before- but had to upgrade to new windows 8. WELL WORTH THE MONEY,

I received the USBTV007 version and it works perfectly with a newer Linux kernel right out of the box, no need to install any drivers.
Both audio and video look and sound great with no distortion.

Only took off a star because the USB extension cable that came with it was cut in half on the female end, rendering it useless.

"EASIER"cap. Not EASYcap brand. Great device and software so far. Recording to MPEG2, set to 4000kbps on an old Acer Netbook on XP. Long delivery time but seems to be a great product at a great price. ... is this one of those things that is too good to be true? (I did not test on Win7 yet.)

Worked great on my Raspberry Pi running OSMC. I purchased this as part of my Ambient Lighting project. It's being used to capture video to turn on LEDs behind my TV using Hyperion. Worked out of the box, and I didn't have to do anything special to make it work.

There are lots of different devices and they all look very similar. Here are some technical details on what I received:

Got it in about 10 days. It seems to be a bit touchy with Win7. Got one VHS tape done. Quality will pretty much be whatever your tape gives you which was fine with me since the 2 tapes I wanted to salvage were 16 years old. The second one I did several days later. When I turned everything on, I found that somehow Win 7 no longer recognized the device. I had to reload the drivers. Got the second tape done. I am happy. The device goes to my girlfriend now who has 100's of tapes to do. We will see how it does!

I never imagined that a $6.50 device would be able to last for months of literally continuous use, but this thing has. I have used it successfully with a Raspberry Pi 1 Model B to capture pictures of my backyard when motion is detected. The Pi can only capture at around 5 FPS or less, but that's just because the Pi is not a very powerful computer. I have tested the EasyCap with my PC and found that it can capture standard definition interlaced video at full speed.

Overall, the performance is better than expected for the price. However, note that this device is standard-definition only, so it's not suitable for capturing HD video feeds.

Some tips for buyers:
- The USB extension cord that comes with the EasyCap is very low quality. That part didn't work for me.
- The capture software that is included is pretty basic. If you want to do more with the video you capture, use VirtualDub instead (AFTER installing everything from the disk!). VirtualDub is free, and in combination with a codec pack, such as the K-Lite Codec Pack (the Mega version is what I use) it allows you to encode into many formats including H.264 and Xvid.

This has the Somagic chip set. Linux drivers are a problem for this chipset. Google code has a driver set up that will get great video on the desktop, but there are no drivers available to register it as a video device for recording. So I have to play it on the desktop full screen then record the desktop. To get audio, I input it through the mic jack and record it along with the desktop which has the video. But that causes the audio to record about 0.5 seconds before the video. FFMPEG can align that, but it's a pain.

I like it, but it doesn't come with the best editing software, and getting this to work with OBS properly can be a bit of a hassle if your PC isn't that good. Plus, you might have to search online a bit to fix the audio problems. Like I said, it works for the price it is, but if you have enough money, unlike me, you might as well get a better capture card.
