At first I thought I had messed something up, but I followed the instructions to the letter from the manual. I even blew the dust out, reseated it no no avail. My TV actually does turn on -- for about 30 seconds and then flickers and turns off to the RED LAMP indicator on the front. A quick test of the error codes produced 3-4 which means Lamp Abnormality. I've called several places around town that sell the OEM lamps and told me this is one of the biggest problems are the generic lamps. Some people get lucky on these and they last for a year or so but the majority are not so lucky. Do any search on Google for your Mitsubishi TV's model number and "lamp flickers then turns off" or "lamp replacement not working" and you'll see pages of forums and threads on issues ONLY where people have purchased generic bulbs.
But hey, don't take my word for it, try for yourself. We're going to be shipping ours back today.
Of course even though the USPS admits fault, and is happy to refund, I have to go through the seller because I paid through Amazon and don't have a USPS receipt. We'll see how the the seller reacts to this, but I'm guessing I'm about to get jipped since Amazon says it's 1-3 days.
But here's the kicker. I open the box and gently remove the lamp in the plastic housing outside of the plastic, and the bulb drops straight to the floor as the piece of plastic housing I'm holding remains in my hand. Fortunately, the bulb wasn't broken, but as I try to put it in the housing I see that one of the plastic clasps to connect the lamp to the housing is broken and it was being held in place by a PIECE OF TAPE!. This is the piece of garbage you sent me? A lamp with a cracked housing held together by tape?!?! Completely unacceptable.
So not only did I get screwed on the shipping, but they send me a piece of hardware it was a miracle didn't break upon opening, costing me who knows how long to replace.
Fortunately the bulb worked, and once inside my TV, the cracked housing is a moot point, otherwise I'd be waiting for another replacement. But the entire situation was completely unacceptable. If it wasn't a huge hassle on my part, I'd return it and demand a replacement just on the general principle of things. But that's just punishing myself further for their shoddy ethics.
I'd be careful ordering from these guys. If you can find another lamp from someone else, it's worth it to pay an extra 10 dollars. And Amazon might consider reviewing these guy's business practices.
So far I can say that the bulb was delivered on time and had no issues with broken parts or anything like that. I replaced the bulb with this one as mine went dark as they all do. I put the new bulb in and it was pink at first so i pulled the bulb back out to make sure there wasn't anything on it and then put it back in. it took about an hour too fully bring my picture back to what I was used to. Now it is vibrant as it was when I first bought the TV.
Update: It's now December 2014. Bulb is still going strong with no issues. I would recommend this to anyone looking to save $$$$$$...
The lamp arrived earlier than promised. It appeared to be an exact match for the original lamp being replaced. It even improved the manner of attachment into the set by providing large knurled screws that allow hand-tightening (without over-tightening via screwdriver).
While I have not had the lamp long enough to evaluate longevity, it appears to have equal brightness and projection as the original, and for less money.
