The Generosity Factor: Discover the Joy of Giving Your Time, Talent, and Treasure Kindle Edition

4.8 4.8 out of 5 stars 327 ratings

In the tradition of the bestselling book The One Minute Manager, authors Ken Blanchard and S. Truett Cathy, entrepreneur and founder of Chick-fil-A restaurants, present The Generosity Factor--a parable that demonstrates the virtues of generosity.

It's the story of a meeting between the Broker--a young man on his way up the corporate ladder who has the illusion of success, yet deep inside feels insignificant--and the Executive--the CEO of a very large and successful company who claims the greatest joy in his life is his ability to give to others.

Thinking he might get a competitive edge by meeting with the Executive, the Broker's worldview is turned upside down as he talks to the Executive and hears the principles that form his life. He calls it The Generosity Factor--a way to give time, talent, treasure, and touch to those in need. Providing a unique twist on what it means to thrive in business, at home, and in life, this story will forever change your definition of success.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Motivational writer Ken Blanchard teams up with Chick-fil-Afounder S. Truett Cathy for The Generosity Factor: The Power inHolding Things with Open Hands, a contemporary allegory about theimportance of giving. While the characters in this little parable (theselfish broker, his contented but poor chauffeur and the generous CEOwho teaches the broker to help others) are more stereotypical thanarchetypal, the values presented are first-rate. Through the story, the broker comes to learn about the generosity factor, which includesa consecration of money, but also, more significantly in our affluentbut over-busy culture, the gift of one's time.

I didn’t make but just a few pages in before my eyes sprung a leak—one that continued throughout the duration of reading the book. My goodness, what an incredible book! It’s a well-written presentation of the life of an amazing person who truly lives generously. The story was perfect for delivering the information. Excellently done, Mr. Blanchard. May the world be more like the Executive!

I am writing a book about living to give, how to live with a giving sort of mindset. I found this book while checking out other books in the genre. I put in the search word, 'generosity,' and this book was spotted. I'd never heard of it before. Because of the amazingly complimentary reviews, I decided to read it. S. Truett Cathy had something to do with it too, Chick-Fil-A and all. I'm always curious about the 'what for'. The book's story line is great! The message is meaningful. The impact will be on-going. My book club is reading it now. They're bound to have enthusiastic reactions, and, maybe, even be impacted by its message. How wonderful that someone can live to give from what they have -- the giving factor takes hold -- and then others replicate the message; and it continues to replicate. In some ways it made me think of the underlying message in the century old book, "In His Steps: What Would Jesus Do." This is also a book about faith that lives and transforms. I loved it!

One of the best books I've read this year. I've always loved to learn more about giving and how God designed generosity for our good from tithe to helping others, serving others, but this book really opened my eyes and took me to a whole new level. I learned so much and I'll never forget Time, Talent, Treasure and Touch. WOW!!!

This book also gave me a new appreciation and respect for Mr Truett Cathy and Ken Blanchard. Amazing Amazing!!! This book was a huge blessing and I will be giving it away as well. I hope that I always live my life with my hand open, my heart open and being used of God to serve and help others have a better more joyful life. Thank you!!

I've heard Ken Blanchard speak and his power of story can motivate and inspire. Unfolding in this short book is the story of the Chick-fil-A founder and others who believe the inspiration of HEART can change your life, and others.

Sometimes those gifts do not manifest so quickly, but they have an impact, and the book is a lesson in the multiple impacts.

A great read, sometimes emotional, and inspirational.

This is a quick read, but the message comes through clear. It's a good reminder of what's important in life, and the HEART acronym serves as a reminder that you can use everyday to guide how you live.

The question for me is, how I teach and coach my children the importance of these powerful lessons. I think lessons are very valuable in todays ubiquitous media confusion and pressure to ideas/opinions polarity. it made me remember my grandparents generosity culture and my Father’s wealth success as a byproduct. Thank you for writing this book!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good lessons - more religious than I expected
Reviewed in Brazil on February 15, 2018
The generosity lessons are good and clear, well written and described on an easy to understand and act way. But it was more religious than I expected and than it was clear on the book description. Though it doesn’t take the value of the lessons, personally I don’t believe you must be religious to be generous. Generosity may come from the heart even from those who don’t do it just because of God - but because they love people and love to give.

Like many other books by Ken Blanchard, the Generosity Factor is written excellently in the form of a story book that still communicates a deep and clear message. I personally love how open and how much this book focuses on God, and breathes in a perspective on life and wealth that is completely different to how most lf the world thinks. Definitely a must read for anyone who has felt that despite success, achievement or material wealth that they are still left wanting more in life.
