This story is less suspense and more drama than the first two in “Hidden Truth” series. Sam’s revealed agoraphobia as well as the main storyline of a drug-addicted teen and his desperate dad push the suspense to the background. The author writes from experience, and it is agonizing for a loved one to be held captive and not want to escape it. However, it seemed like the dad made too many excuses for his son, and the “best friend” who is his drug dealer gets off scot free. Because he’s “Sorry and won’t do it again”.
Most readers with believing faith are looking for well written and clean fiction, both of which are fulfilled in Patchen’s series. Formulas and requisite salvations are not necessary, but most characters in these books speak their doubts of God’s existence.
Aiden's addiction is only the tip of the iceberg in this complex storyline. The character development is superb; the bad guys are wicked and the "normal" people are really likable. This author's writing style is impressive and wonderfully descriptive. "Its good to hit bottom. That's where the solid ground is."
Each book in the series stands alone well with no cliffhanger, but the stories are connected by the characters who know each other. While dealing with difficult issues, the storyline is rich with hope and the love of God. The suspense is scary, the love story is heartwarming! You won't want to miss this inevitably feel-good read!
