The section on the creation of days 1-7 is particularly interesting for me, as I was never able to understand how the earch and plants could have existed (Day 3) without the (warmth and light) of the sun (Day 4). Ross gives a reasonable explanation/interpretation for this apparent contradiction.
Ross does not shy away from any of the controversial topics in Genesis. He writes about the age of the earth and universe, the creation of mankind, the Garden of Eden, the origin of sin, the Tower of Babel and the divisions of mankind, skin coloration, and the division of the earths geographic mass into the land masses we have today.
I have never been one who can park my brain outside the church while I learn Bible doctrines inside the church. For me, knowledge and truth should go hand in hand and blend together in perfect harmony inside the pages of scripture. Ross seeks to explain Genesis "mysteries" by applying scientific knowledge to the pages of Genesis. This is what I found most enlightening - that science actually confirms what the Bible states in Genesis. I applaud Hugh Ross for his innovative work.
Footnote: One must approach this book with an open mind. Throw out any previous mindsets about interpretations of Genesis. If you are a strong believer in "Young Earth Creationism", this book will severely challenge your belief system(s). Yet, this is what books should do - challenge our belief systems. If our belief system is correct, it will be strengthened, conversely, if it is incorrect, one must reconsider. God created us with thinking intuitive minds, and I believe He wants us to use those minds to discover Him.
