In the '90's I was doing a lot of my own writing, guitar work and some recording and completely missed this incredible band called Talisman. I thought that AOR had passed from the scene! This album was originally released in 1990 by this Swedish group with Jeff Scott Soto on vocals, founder Marcel Jacob on bass,Fredik Akesson & Pontus Norgren on guitars and Jamie Borgrer on drums. This Deluxe edition evidently remastered and re-released in 2012 is easily just as good if not better. One of the best AOR hard rock albums I have ever heard. It is completely addictive in it's guitar driven, melodic hard rock drive. There's nothing "pop" here. The vocals & harmonies are placed on a plain equal with the guitars and drums so that the lyrics are easily discernible along with the incredible guitar riffs..Marcel Jacob truly rocks his bass doing a number of "solo" parts and amazing fills where needed;often keeping time with both drums and rythym riffs. The lyrics are simple with meaning and message. To catagorize them with any American or Brit equivalent is hard due to their unique really tight sound. But...Mr.Big...White Snake, to name a couple but much more addictive. I have listened to this album numerous times now and can't get enough! Every track is great. I'm looking forward to getting alot more of Talisman!

Swedish/American melodic rock band Talisman delivered their second album - Genesis - in 1993, after singer Jeff Scott Soto's brief detour with Eyes. The journeyman vocalist (previously with Yngwie Malmsteen and Axel Rudi Pell) rejoined bassist Marcel Jacob (RIP) to try and recapture the melodic rock magic of the Talisman debut.

Hearing Genesis, you have to wonder why this band wasn't huge. Even in the grunge-drenched `90s a band this good should have broke through to the masses. Genesis is just a fantastic example of hard-hitting but very accessible melodic rock. It's extremely well written and avoids a lot of the arena rock clichés that date so many `80s albums. Guitarist Fredrik Akesson really shines here as well, especially paired with Marcel Jacob's funky bass style. And of course Soto gives an incredible performance full of his trademark power and soul.

Talisman incorporated the best elements of 80's AOR and early 90's "hair metal", and did so at a time when mainstream musical tastes no longer cared much for this kind of music. If you love bands like Journey, Foreigner, Bad English, Europe, Winger, and Bon Jovi, but have not yet heard Talisman, you need to pick up this disc right now. You'll want to kick yourself for not finding it earlier. Genesis is the very definition of a must-have melodic rock album.

Edition Notes: In addition to the cover of Bad Company's "Run With the Pack," which was previously available only on an expensive Japanese import, the 2003 Rock Treasures reissue of Genesis features digitally remastered sound and a second disc full of demos, live tracks, and multimedia content. It's well worth replacing your older version. The weird thing is that the album covers are slightly different. You have to see them side by side to notice, though.

Talisman is another, in the VERY long list of exceptional bands that the one-and-only Jeff Scott Soto was involved with. I can't imagine how this guy isn't a household name like Bon Jovi or Ronnie James Dio, but I guess sometimes the best things in life aren't well known.

"Genesis" is the second offering from Swedish/American band Talisman. The album was released in 1993, three years after their debut. This album is along the same lines as the debut, however, the production seems just a tad different with this outing. That's an awfully minor complaint about an awesome record, but their debut kicked so much tail, it's noteworthy to me. This album is just packed to the gills with amazing melodic rock tunes. Songs like "If U Would Only Be My Friend" and "Mysterious" are highlights for me, but every other track could be a highlight as well. Listening to this album makes me remember why I love this kind of music, and why JSS should be talked about as one of the best ever.

If you like melodic rock music in any capacity, this album is a sure-fire winner! There's nothing that people shouldn't like on this disc, and this should make you wanna track down their other records as well. Go buy them all I say. They are all great in their own right.

That people give names such as Bon Jovi, Poison, Cinderella or The Darkness as an example of good glam rock instead of just saying: Talisman is beyond me!

This is a glam band with big hooks reminicent of Yngwie Malmsteen circa Eclipse cd but ten times better. For instance: here the bassist is EXTREMELY prominent in the sound, unlike in Yngwie's works.Besides that the songs are different from one another and the hooks are fat and melodic, let alone choruses with cathy sounds galore!!

Buy this to listen to fun, extremely melodic, masterfully done glam rock/metal.Highly recommended!
