As a fan of thriller novels myself, I was instantly hooked with the plot of Genetic Bullets. It probably has to do with the fact that thisis already the third book, but still, a novel that starts immediately into action within the first few pages show good promise. Case in point, Genetic Bullets opens with the team already in the middle of an expedition that led to the discovery of a 35,000-year old city that holds deadly secrets.
One of the best elements in Genetic Bullets for me is the book's conflict--the world facing an apocalypse because of a virus that infects and kills people within weeks. With millions already dead, it's up to the Rossler Foundation to not only find a way to deal with the imminent plague, but also to somehow stop political unrest among nations worldwide. The entire plot screams thriller, and readers will not be able to resist finishing the book in only a few hours.
Apart from the gripping plot, the characters are also well-established. Personally, I like an author that introduces the character swell but also trusts the readers enough to figure some things out for themselves. Ryan was able to do that with the characters in Genetic Bullets, and I'm fairly certain that he offered the same treatment in the previous books in the series.
Overall, Genetic Bullets was a heart-stopping delight to read, and I can't wait to go back and read the first two instalments in the Rossler Foundation series.
NDP_NYC Amazon Reviewer - A medical thriller that really thrills. This is the follow up to'Ninth Cycle Antarctica' which was a great book. And this one is just as good,if not better. In the 'Ninth Cycle' an expedition to Antarctica finds a previously unknown 35,000-year-old buried city. The expedition is not without its trials and tribulations, not the least of which is the ongoing battles with the malevolent Orion society. As the story continues in 'Genetic Bullets', a second expedition goes back to do more in-depth research and makes an unexpected discovery: the city is host to a killer virus that, once unearthed by the expedition, spreads worldwide and kills millions. The virus only affects certain groups of people, giving rise to speculation about its origins and purpose. As the plague spreads, it causes political and social upheaval around the world, including governments accusing other governments of being behind the pandemic and threatening war. Many believe that if it cannot be stopped, the disease may cause the end of the world.
There are sub-plots and many plot twists here that keep it fresh and constantly engaging. There is also a romance, but really this is a medical thriller that incorporates elements of human genetics, epidemiology,DNA as well global politics. Throughout there is a "race against time" feeling that makes it hard to stop reading - I found myself having a hard time putting it down because of the anticipation of what would happen next.
Nadia Scrieva Amazon Reviewer - A stunning and satisfying book! First of all: the chapter headings. I love a book with cute and witty chapter titles, and this book had the best chapter titles I have ever seen. I am 100% serious. You will be smiling before you even start to read the chapter! I loved them, and found myself looking forward to each one. No matter how intense things get, the chapter titles keep things light.
Second of all, I wish I could rate this book ten stars. Five isn't enough.
Genetic Bullets, from the title, to the first word, and until the very last page, kept me on the edge of my seat. It wasn't enough for the author to create a fantastic world for us to explore, but also engaging and really amazing characters to anchor us in. They were depicted perfectly and so realistically that I was completely swept away in each and every interaction
This makes a perfect third instalment to the series and it's just as beautifully written. As a huge fan of mystery, suspense, and action, this one really does it for me. The book has several scintillating plot twists that will leave you excited and drooling for more. This is the greatest read that I have had the pleasure of encountering in ages. I am so pleased to have discovered JC Ryan! I will be a loyal reader for years to come.
This is really fantastic work.
