Product Description

GENEVA's motto, "simplicity sounds better," is the answer to the question of whether electronics have to be ugly and complicated. The Model M cabinet is a strikingly seamless design statement that disguises the power and versatility of the hi-fi system hidden inside. The cabinet's woodworking features traditional intarsia techniques to create the subtle radius corners, and the hand-finished lacquering is superb. Tucked underneath a flip-up lid are the controls that make hi-fi easier and more attractive. The backlit TouchLights brighten on contact and allow full control of the menu system of an iPod or iPhone, a level of usability not found in rivals. There's also an FM radio with digital tuner, and a programmable clock with alarm. A line-in jack allows you to connect anything from a turntable to a television. Not quite 8 inches high, the Model M has a full stereo array that rivals the power of bulky multi-box component systems. Each speaker is powered by its own dedicated digital amplifier. These digital amps are also incredibly energy efficient, drawing less than 20% of the electricity burned by conventional stereos - which is why GENEVA was named first in Metropolis magazine's list of top new sustainable products.

I have a couple of problems on this item. (I don't want to complain to the sound quality or design of this.)

Firstly, I got this a couple of days later by UPS, which was informed.

Secondly, the finishing of the item is just "BAD". The painting of corner which was under the dock cover is "substandard", it is just looked like rusted. I have a "geneva world radio(silver)" and, I think it is superior to this in making and finishing quality.

Lastly, the battery cover of Remote controller is not close tightly and corretly. So, I have to hold the cover with my hand to control the Audio.

I am willing to show my pictures of problems to anyone who have plan to buy this.(My E-mail address is ja98031@daum.net)

I am in S, Korea so, i don't know the exact way to refund money or return this to the seller. I want to say to anyone who want to buy this, "Please check the item at first hand, before you pay".

Attractive design, great sound, mediocre radio reception. I find this stereo great for listening to classical and contemporary vocals. Artists such as Sharon Robinson, Anjani, Sade etc sound really great as do symphonies. Rock, Country, Blues etc sound good but there are cheaper and/or alternatives that sound just as good if not better. IMO-sound is too clean for noisy music or music that relies on a strong mid range. I don't listen to rap. heavy metal or opera so no opinion on those formats, but this stereo is not real strong on bass. Bass and treble are adjustable, but the change is minor. Volume can get quite loud with no distortion, but occasionally, despite volume setting, an odd reverberation comes from the left speaker which seems to have no direct cause. Usually lasts just a short time but not quite what you expect, particularly at MSRP. If radio is of primary importance, there is an unusual antenna connection "Pal"-I plan to get a converter soon and hook up an F type antenna to see if reception improves-as equipped-my two favorite stations--one about 25 miles to the west the other about 20 miles to the east barely come in adequately. Changing from stereo to mono does not improve reception as is the case with many radios. I was able to obtain one of these at a good price--and for the price I paid it's a good buy--at full price I would have other recommendations. However-for classical and artists such as those I mentioned, particularly the sound is exceptional and makes up for the negatives. Once I'm able to hook up a different antenna if radio improves I will update!

I honestly expected better performance from the unit. The bass is lacking and the treble/bass control does not really give the sound any dynamics.
The thing looks amazing, like someone put good thought into it. It's pretty heavy. The remote looks well designed also but seems a bit cheaply made. The iPod interface is cumbersome with the changing of the dock inserts for different iPods, although not a deal breaker.
For some reason, the volume when using the line feature with my CPU has a very low volume ( & yes I turned the CPU volume almost all the way up)
All in all. It's nice. Worth the price?? depends on what u r paying for. For me the sound lacks depth and come across mostly flat, but I must admit the sound fills the space very well.
Hope this is helpful.

Have had the product for 6 months. Bought it for iPod dock to be used at the cottage to live stream my favourite radio station (Jazz.FM) and to listen to all my music on iPod. Have not been disappointed. Beautifully made in gloss black. It does not reproduce the lowest octaves of bass (what do you expect for 4" speakers), but the sound is well balanced and solid and bass reproduction is good. Music and voices are reproduced clearly with no distortion and musical instruments are clear and well differentiated so you hear all the nuances in the music. The overall effect is very, very good. Good stereo separation and very nice spatial room filling stereo effect. Would buy it all over again in a minute. A great product. Very pleased with the sound reproduction of this unit. P.S. I love jazz.

Update: the other night I had Lord of the Rings on the TV with the sound coming from the Geneva and I was sitting to the side of the speaker and could hear the sound beautifully. That is when I realized the purpose of the dimple design of the Geneva. It has two woofers and two tweeters clustered together in the centre of the speaker unit and the metal grill has a 6" convex dimple in the centre that covers half of each speaker. Why you ask? This design allows half of the sound from each speaker to project directly into the room while the other half is reflected off the inside of the dimple to the sides as well as up and down. That way you get the best of direct and reflected sound that gives you a much more natural listening experience. The more I listen to this speaker unit the more I like it. It provides a very, very satisfactory listening experience.

The sound is quite good, it won't be mistaken for a discreet 5.1 system but it generates nice strong sound that fills the room without any sort of distortion even at high volumes. However there is no information at all on how to set the alarm relative to AM vs PM. When you're setting the time there is a tiny dot to the right of the numbers, if it is on then off you are either in am or pm... guess it doesn't really matter which is which as long you know how you set it. The only thing is, when you stop setting the time that dot goes away. Then when you set the alarm the dot comes back so you have to flip over to time setting to see if the dot appears or not, then flip back to alarm setting and make sure you set the alarm relative to that so your 6 am alarm does not go off at 6 pm. And after you set the alarm the dot goes away. And none of this is explained anywhere in the manual or online. Not good.

Also the click wheel style interface doesn't really seem to work with a modern iPod touch (4g) the only thing that works is advance, back and stop, I don't know what "Menu" or "Options" do. If the iPod is off clicking those does not start playing music... however turning the speaker "off" and then "on" will start playing music, if you manually started playing music before... and even if you stopped playing music before manually through the iPod and turn the speaker off and on the music will start playing again. Quirky.

Anyway, the sound is great, but the UI is a bit idiosyncratic and odd.
