Editorial Reviews

"The author weaves a complex plot whilst developing and maintaining a hot romance. She has clearly done a great deal of research into the mythology of the jinn and the customs, history, and politics of the Middle East. I liked the way she spins her tale and her world building is excellent.... I recommend this book to readers of paranormal romance and also those who enjoy romantic suspense with a paranormal twist. The romance between Bethany and Zubis continues in The Genie Smolders, which is due for release in Spring 2013."  ~A Reader's Review blog

"This was a fun and fiery read that I did not want to put down. From the moment I fired up the Kindle, I was enthralled with this author's words. I love the contrast that the author creates between the past life and love they had together with the current timeline. I was drawn into their world and did not want to leave it at all." ~Wakela Runen's World blog

The story of Zubis and Bethany O'Brien is a love story for a new generation. It has suspense, humor, heart, passion and a fiery romance. I was so emotionally involved in how their relationship developed that I had trouble putting the book down. At the same time, the author does a stellar job of creating scenes that make you feel like you're there. I traveled from Washington to London to Italy then Egypt and, finally, Saudi Arabia, just by turning the pages. Even though this is the story of a genie, the way it's written makes the idea of a genie interacting in our world entirely believable.

Bethany O'Brien is a normal American woman who works for the Saudi embassy in Washington, DC. She's sharp and sassy and very skeptical when Seth, her contact at the embassy, tells her a secret. He's a member of an ancient society called the Veil of Thoth, whose job it is to monitor genies on earth. They've learned that Bethany is the reincarnation of a priestess from the time of Solomon. The priestess was the lover of a genie named Zubis who has resurfaced in the 21st century. Seth wants to help Bethany retrieve her memories as the priestess so that she can kill Zubis. Even though Bethany thinks the idea of a genie being real is ridiculous (much less that she would have to kill him), her journalism training kicks in. She wants to find out what's really going on.

I think Bethany's pursuit of Zubis might have been unbelievable if we didn't already see that Zubis had been visiting Bethany in her dreams. She's confused and intrigued by Zubis by the time Seth explains who he is. Plus, the story opens with Bethany meeting Zubis in the flesh at an embassy reception. Sparks fly right away. She doesn't yet realize who he is, but the reader has a clue.

I thoroughly enjoyed this read. Kellyann has written a book about a subject she obviously knows well as her knowledge and passion shine through on every page. Bethany is a very credible heroine, feisty and independent, as she gets drawn into a web of intrigue and her past history with a very mysterious ancient culture. Meeting the past love of her life, Zubis, who is, I have to say, an incredible sexy but fairly autocratic jinn, turns the world she knew on its head and opens her eyes to a world full of mystery and double crossing.
I look forward to Kellyann's next chapter in the Zubis Chronicles and will definitely be reading it!

Ok I enjoyed the story. I thought the characters were enchanting. I wanted more action though it seemed most parts were dragging. Overall the story was interesting enough to keep me involved. By the way romance is not the center of this book

The Genie Ignites is a splendid paranormal romance with intrigue, romance and many historical attributes. Zubis has been waiting for his soul mate to be reborn for three thousand years. He needs her at his side and will wait eternity if he has to. But she has arrived and she doesn't remember who she was.

Bethany is a journalist beseeched with dreams with a beautiful genie. When she travels to Saudi Arabia, she is stunned when she meets the man from her dreams in the flesh. Their connection won't be ignored, but something sinister is brewing. A political war between the djinn and the humans has led to something all powerful that could end the worlds as they know it. Zubis and Beth could lose one another again, just as they found one another. They will fight for everything they have and will be or die trying.

Filled with exotic locale, memorable characters, a well-built world and wonderful dialogue, The Genie Ignites is a stellar first book in a series. Paranormal romance fans won't want to miss this one - it has key elements of a best seller and will leave the reader begging for the next one. Highly recommend!

Kellyann Zuzulo weaves a tapestry of magic and intrigue in The Genie Ignites.

I found the novel filled with tension and conflict as Bethany O'Brien, a high-profile journalist working in Washington, D.C. uncovers her own history and her link to the past. She's no shrinking violet - Bethany is determined to find out why Zubis, an ancient genie is manifesting himself in her dreams, and her reality. Once a priestess in Solomon's court, Zubis needs Bethany at his side. He's loved her for three thousand years, and he's waited for her rebirth.

Across the sands of time, Bethany travels to Zubis in Saudi Arabia, drawn to him like a moth to the flame. Her incredible journey reveals exotic images, ripped-from-the-headlines political intrigue, and historical artifacts leading her to her destiny - a secret society where humans and Jinnji collide for control of the world.

The historical elements in this story, religion and royalty bring the characters to life in a race against time. Royalty behaves badly, and the body count rises as Faisal, the antagonist, attempts to take the Saudi throne. He wants to unleash the unstoppable power of Borzal, a Genie who guarantees Faisal world domination.

Zubis and Bethany mean to stand in their way.

Oh, and did I mention the love story? Romantic tension led me along Bethany's journey to reunite with Zubis, the Genie who holds her heart. Magical, sizzling hot romance weaves throughout the novel, and Zuzulo delivers an ending that prompts me to pick up the next book in her Genie series.

This is a good read. Treat yourself.
