Nice deck but questionable illustrations
These are high quality playing cards and the selection of artists makes sense… but every face is paper white, including artists like Basquiat and Kahlo. It’s very obvious the illustrator does not know how to draw nonwhite people. I suppose it could be brushed off as a stylistic choice, but I think it’s a little strange given how strongly these artists’ races/cultures impacted their art. It’s absolutely a well made deck but I probably won’t be using them much as this leaves a bad taste in my mouth.. there is enough colorism in the art world already.

A quality product but with a few mistakes. For example the order on some of the cards was rather absurd. An obvious error was Louise Bourgeois who is not really a surrealist but more an abstract expressionist. She was also put at a higher card number than significant surrealists such as Giorgio De Chirico; she was made a nine, he was made a four, in truth it should have been reversed. These and several other mistakes are the problem with this card deck. However, the drawings are nice and the fact there is one artist per card totaling to 52 is also a positive. I admire many female artists, and putting Frida as the Queen of diamonds and Yayoi Kusama as the Queen of Hearts, were both well deserved. But this deck knowingly and quite obviously was attempting to include a disproportionate amount of female artists in certain genres to seemly compensate for their general abesence at mostly male dominated times. I don't have so much of a problem with that, so long as it doesn't detract from other people's, male or otherwise, legitimate value. If you're going to make a card deck, don't start by stacking the deck...
