Setup - 1 minute 35 seconds. Of this time, it took 1 minute 15 seconds to take out of the box leaving 20 seconds to find my tablet and play.
That was my original post - with 4 stars. But now alas I only feel it is fair to post an update. This is why I hate reviewing anything too soon. Two months after I started using this speaker, the USB port began to wobble. I knew it was only a matter of time. Yup - within a day of the wobble, the USB port punched inwards - dead - ugh.
To my surprise - Goodios, the distributor, lived up to their end of the bargain and TWO months later I received a new one. WOOHOO!!!
All was going good up until a few weeks ago - just 3 1/2 months after the replacement. The same exact issue. The USB port gave in. It just can't take the daily need of charging as we use it all day long listening to audio books while working around the house. Now don't think I'm a gorilla or anything similar. I had 35 years of IT Tech experience and know my way around electronics. But this USB port is soldered in with less than a drop of solder or so it seems.
After contacting Goodios again, they said they fulfilled their end of the deal and that they could not replace it again. They told me to call the manufacturer. Hmmm - in this day and age? I don't think so. I just wrote to Amazon at their email address firstname.lastname@example.org to hear the official take on this issue.
I shall update this review once I know the final outcome.
Oh - as far as the 4 stars I gave it - I'd give it again, if I can get one that lasts for at least a year. Is that too much to ask? Or are we just so used to living in a throw away society where we toss items within 3 months and get another...
Update; After contacting the manufacturer and after I sent them all the email exchanges and the original purchase receipt, they sent me my 3rd and final replacement. I received the new one before I had a chance to send back the bad one. The manufacturer lived up to their responsibility. For now all is good.
So why 3 stars? It's an average of a poorly designed USB port which would make this 1 star and great customer service from the distributor and manufacturer 5 stars. 1 + 5 = 6 divided by 2 = 3 stars.
Hopefully this one will last. I have a permanent USB cord taped plugged and taped on to the unit. The larger end dangles as we move from room to room. A bit of an inconvenience, but I know the larger end of the USB cord will not push the USB port of my computer in.
The battery on this thing lasts forever it seems. I have only run out of power 2 times since I bought it, And that was due to my own negligence by not charging it for so long. I played this thing on full volume for 8 hours non-stop and it was still going. I left it on once for A WEEK without it playing anything before I noticed the blue light blinking, That just goes to show you how well it conserves power even if you leave it on.
update: Died after 4 years, I guess that is pretty good but still shouldn't things last a little longer? I try to charge it but the cable to charge does not stay in place. I got it to stay in a perfect position, repaired to my Samsung, worked for 10 minutes then died. I keep getting an error message, unable to pair. I also get this loud static noise when I first plug in charger. So I initially gave it a high rating, now down to 2 stars. I did not use this speaker too much either through the 4 years, things are made really crappy these days.
