They all have a casual, musical theater-esque quality to them... but that does not mean they're simple to read or easy to sing by any means. You need a good pianist who can feel the emotions with you since there is a LOT of interplay between voice and piano in most of the songs.
You can perform them in any order since they are all separate poems (the only unifying thread is that they're all poems by Langston Hughes), and most of the songs are all over the place in terms of key schemes.
If you're looking for repertoire that's accessible but sophisticated, straightforward and emotional, and relatively unknown, buy this song cycle. Some of the poetic texts are rather oddly-set, but there are several in the book that truly shine.
