Wow, this author has a talent for building suspense and excitement! The story of the boys' beginnings in life is sad and was hard to read but it was important in building the plot and helped me understand the challenges that they had faced and were working to overcome. I really enjoy books written about characters who overcome diversity and I felt many emotions for Byshopp and Ruben. It takes a lot for an author to write a story where I can feel such a strong connection to the characters, but this story was excellent. I think this book would appeal to many people, but especially teenagers. I truly enjoyed it and would highly recommend it.

The book was expertly written, but the story was dark and deep and left me shaken. The author weaves a story that is necessary for understanding the life of the main character, but leaves the reader feeling unsettled. If you're interested in reading something that makes you think and feel the pain of the character, this book will certainly leave you rattled.

Really well written and totally different from all the books I have read so far! Its intense and transports me into a completely different world. Byshopp and Ruben, two amazing characters who rose from two abused children to become two best friend brothers. After Rik Kory took me from one suspenseful event to the other, I was pretty much sure the ending would be flat and tragic. It was impossible for me to put down the book as I HAD to find out what was going to happen next! I was pleasantly surprised by both the ending and the Prologue! I can't wait to read book 2! Necessity is always the mother of invention as Rik Kory wrote this brilliant book to pay his doctor bills.
