Genostock—First Scroll is a very inventive, ambitious, and sweeping work. This novel works on many levels. Quite a few characters inhabit this book. At first, it might seem a bit difficult to keep up with them, however, the key characters are so clearly drawn and the story lines are so engaging that the writing and story-telling enable the reader to simply, naturally get it and absorb what's important as the characters develop, plots unfold, and themes emerge. It is allegorical in a number of ways. Among other themes, this story is about the power of words and ideas, and how humans—perhaps all living things—evolve not only genetically by natural selection but also by virtue of their communications and sharing of knowledge, and the power of spirit. It is also about the difference between knowledge and wisdom, as well as the universal complexities and ambiguities of growing up human, regardless of time and place, and also how the dead often exercise more power than the living. Zilberman grapples with human need—for affection, community, and love—and he fearlessly explores the dynamics of sibling, familial and tribal rivalries, the threat of overpopulation, and the perils of intellectual poverty and spiritual pride for the individual as well as the human species at large. This strikes me as transformational writing and I can't wait to discover what Zilberman has in store for us next.

Fascinating book and truly a brilliant page turner! Loved all the twists & turns in the plot leaving the reader hanging! Also must note that unlike many other books in its category - this author does an exceptional job at delivering a massive story/world in a very engaging, entertaining way! Let's see how long before a for a smart producer to put this awesome story on film...

Reading Genostock is a powerful experience, which constantly ignites your imagination and challenges your thinking. The plot raises important moral issues, relevant to our modern existence, while engendering strong emotional attachment to the 3 main figures. The actions, feelings and thoughts of Julian, Dorianna and Bushon are the heart of this remarkable story, although there's much more to it.

This multi layer creation is based on a thrilling story taking place in a future world with a new order. The reader is zoomed out from a single character to brilliant logical structures of inter personal relationships, families and societies. Through building this world, the author uses ideas based on biology, paleontology, technology, geography and more. In the middle of this fascinating world stand the GENOSTOCK - genetically engineered and manufactured creatures, fully functioning on their own and enabling mankind to avoid another environmental disaster. The ideas behind the GENOSTOCK can serve, no doubt, as a future technology of the next startup firm. Indirectly, the concepts that drive this futuristic thriving society are indicative of the author's perception of the maladies that afflict of our current society; greed, myopic thinking, destructive weaponry, aging population, polluting industries and moral decay. No doubt - it makes one think.

Although many other sci-fi books have tried to build a convincingly future world, only a few have managed to maintain depth and credibility while describing it. Moreover, only a few have succeeded in combining their ideas with a powerful thrilling story that doesn't let up even for a single paragraph. Reading GENOSTOCK will keep you alert and tense. You will imagine, think, and debate with yourself. You will love and hate, get angry and disappointed. You will salivate reading the description of the food and feasts. You will be scared running away from the terrible hoolves, and be surprised while connecting the dots between the different stories. At the end of every chapter, you'll be hooked up, waiting impatiently for the next one, as I currently find myself waiting impatiently for scroll no. 2.

I found this book to be one of the rare books written these days that manifests verbal eloquence and evokes strong visual imagery. It is a creative look at what could be our collective future.

No doubt, this is one of the most exciting, original and brilliant books I've ever read. The author created a future world that is full with amazing inventions and society rules that help it survive despite the threats of overpopulation and pollution. While dealing with the future, one cannot avoid the philosophical dilemmas that are so relevant to our era, such as aging population, racism, and even fire arm control. While successfully doing this, the author didn't neglect drama and tension: this story wouldn't let the reader put the book down until its surprising end. I can’t wait to read part II of this trilogy, hopefully available soon.

A fascinating future world with captivating characters & genetically engineered technology. I got hooked as soon as I started reading the Prologue.

A fun & captivating story, set up in a post industrial world recovering from past (our era) environmental disaster. I especially liked the short proverbs (in rhymes!) interspersed among the fast paced story line - Brilliant & creative!

I hope books 2 & 3 follow soon...

If you are an intelligent reader, who is wondering what the future of our world might be and is fascinated by a creative and completely different way of thinking about this subject, you will love this book! It is mainly for Sci-Fi lovers, but any reader will be easily drawn into the future imaginary worlds created by the author. The characters are different from each other, but you can't be indifferent to any of them. You will get emotionally involved and won't be able to put the book down!

A wonderful intelligent reading. unlike other futuristic books one can believe that the future world will actually look like the one presented in the book. An everyday story of of a special community strangling to survive in an extreme environment . Very easy to read . Lots of surprises and cliffhangers . Not to be missed.
