I would recommend this to anyone with a reactive dog! What a great idea for desensitizing your dogs' environment.
As soon as I put it on him in the car I saw an immediate change. He did not bark or whine. I have used it in the car 8 times since then and he has not made a single sound. He sits in the middle of the backseat and looks out the windshield. It's not just the barking, it's his whole demenor. He's so quiet...before he was running around the backseat from window to window.
I would recommend this product to everyone that has a barker in the car. This is an AMAZING product!!
She said with a lot of practice and training beforehand, the cap made a huge difference in her dog's stress levels and behavior during exams. She could whip the cap off after an exam and rather than being fearful, the dog looked for her treat.
I have since bought one and followed the instructions on getting my dog used to the cap, and used to expecting food.
Although I still don't trust him at the vet's w/o wearing a soft muzzle in addition to the vet, I am sure it helps because just the muzzle alone causes my poor dog to thrash much more, and rebel. With the cap, he stands still while feeling arms around him;
the only attemtps to escape were during a nail trim and that was only one or two. There was still lip licking, but no snarly-face.
The cap does not completely blindfold the dog, which I guess some think may cause it's own stress.
The dog can see movement and shapes, but does not have a clear view. You can tell when you wear it yourself!
Or when you try walking your dog with it and you notice he's not sure where he's going.
The cap is a nice midway point between not having a clear view of the perceived threat, and not having the potentially panicky situation of not being able to see at all. I do think it has helped overall, though in our case, it may never be perfect.
We are working on it in the meanwhile. :)
