Stephen, is the Lord in charge & due to the tragedy that happened to his man, Thomas, he married his daughter Elizabeth. Going on the fighting between the couple, the tension, it was plain to those who knew them best more than duty was being done. For the Reader there are laugh out loud moments with the tender love or highly explosive anger times.
If you love Historical Romance Drama & especially Medieval, then this is a must read.
If you love Historical Romance Drama & haven't ever read Medieval, then this is a must read.
If you love Romance & haven't ever read a Historical Romance Drama, Medieval, then start with this must read.
If you are expecting the perfect gentleman who kisses hands & stands when a Lady enters a room; then treats Ladies like they are made of fine crystal & might break wrong book. Going on, you are also expecting a Lady who simpers & never raises her voice. Definitely, wrong book. Hahaha, thank goodness this book is filled with characters.
RECOMMEND
Sexual content medium.
First of all, I really, really enjoyed Garwood's other historicals so far. She has a simple, straightforward style that is nonetheless very effective for conveying satisfying emotions. Her heroes are alpha, but kind and respectful of their heroines. You can see the relationship build and it's not just ''she was so beautiful I had to have sex with her.'' I also like that the conflict comes from outside of the couple, instead of just endless battles of the sexes just to fake some sexual tension. It's really nice to see a couple who trust each other and work together to solve conflicts. I've actually laughed out loud while reading some of her crazy scenes, which I've never done with a romance novel. Sure, they are formulaic. Sure, I can't really tell the difference between the heroes in each story, they are so similar. Sure, the heroines are really all the same except for their specific cute quirks. Who cares? They are fun and satisfying reads.
Now take what I've just said and reverse it for "Gentle Warrior". The hero marries the heroine because he wants to have sex with her. He doesn't like her, doesn't respect her and generally treats her like a mentally defective gerbil. Or perhaps I should say a particularly lifelike anatomically-correct blow up doll. The heroine is set up as independent and capable, but then puts up with infinite nastiness from her husband. Now, this may be more historically accurate than Garwood's other novels, but this is a romance, not a non-fiction history tome. It's supposed to be a LOVE story, and that is entirely missing.
Anyway, very, very, bad - however, no way will I quit wading through Garwood's other historicals just because I'm not happy with this one. I'm thrilled to have found a great ''new'' (to me) historical romance author. Everyone can write a dud. This is Garwood's.
Both of my sister's would love this book.
