Product change my life in a since. I love the fact that I can use a remote to access Netflix, Television and Movies. I think the media is great. Microsoft should of sold all there PC/ laptop products with AV interfaces or TV tuners. They would have crushed everyone before they had a chance to come out with SmartTV or Google TV.
This remote came with my dell computer. It works fine, but has some issues: - After a year or so, the most-used buttons, such as volume up/down no longer work. This is the main complaint since it means a new remote is needed. I've never had a standard tv remote wear out this fast. - Occasionally the receiver will stop working and it is necessary to unplug/replug to USB port - Also, the receiver base thing appears to set the IR threshold or something, so this has to be in the same general lighting condition as the IR sensor. So, it can't just be stuffed out of the way as you might expect. - Buttons can't be programmed. It would be nice if the "power" button for example would close Media Center, so going through the MC menu or using the mouse weren't necessary. By default, it will shut down your computer! - It is rather bulky compared with other remotes.
I plugged in the IR receiver, my Windows 7 Media Center software recognized it right away. I connected the enclosed IR Emitter and taped it to the front of my satellite receiver and configured the Media Center software so it could program the satellite box. Worked perfectly first time out.
I bought this for a Mac Pro Tower that doesn't have a Infrared connection. I am using it in conjunction with Remote Buddy. The two work together to give me all the media center controls I need to run my whole computer from a Logitech Remote Controller. I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.4 Works with Apple Remote IR commands.
Very nice little product, doesn't have a lot of software support though, you have to rely on whatever OS you are on, Windows didn't help much with the new Windows 8 having a separate version with the Media Center.
I have been very pleased with Dell's MCE remote. The unit is comfortable to hold, all the controls work as expected - what more could I want? I will definitely buy another should the need arise (I have 4 MCE systems in the house).
