will update in 2-3 months
Upon first use I had no bad tasting plastic or smells from the water. The cooler and heater work great. The water cools to a refreshing temperature and that heater puts out some HOT water! While I do not use the heater function, I just leave the switch turned off. There are 2 switches on the side that turn the cooler and heater off and on. There is a safety feature on the hot water button that works if you had children to prevent them from dispensing the hot water.
The quality is very nice, there is only noise when it is cooling which is not noticeable, and I use the storage underneath for plastic cups.
Heats and cools adequately.
Water tasted terrible. I ran a few gallons through the machine over the course of several days. Still tasted terrible. Dropped a quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide into the dispenser, and let that sit overnight. Better, but not good.
We've put up with the taste problem through the first five gallons of water we "actually" used, by using it only for coffee--where it gets heated again by the coffee maker.
I'll know more later, when we put another jug of water on the machine.
[Later Edit] Needed another 5-gallon jug of water--and a couple of weeks--to get rid of the bad taste problem. Seems OK now--or I've just gotten used to it so I don't notice the bad taste any more.
It makes a terrible buzzing sound when the compressor runs (it sits on a level, ceramic tile floor, so it's not a stability problem). It is loud enough to hear in the next room.
Worse, yesterday, the room temp valve got stuck in the open position. The button is not depressed and yet water flows incontrolably anyway.
I am extremely disappointed with this unit. I wish I had saved my money and not bought it. :(
I did contact the mfg, but am waiting to hear back what they say. Will update if they respond.
UPDATE: 11/13/15 - The MFG was very supportive and sent me a brand new unit. They were very responsive and didn't even make me turn cartwheels checking 5 million things the way most warranty departments will do. I explained the problem, they apologized, and immediately got the ball rolling on a new unit. So, far, the new unit is working fine. It has been in use for about a week now. Stars upgraded from the original 1 star to 3 stars due to terrific warranty response.
