I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7 V8 with the hydraulic cooling fan. If you are looking at this fluid, you no doubt have a similar WJ Jeep and are afraid to run anything but the MS-5931. By the part number, this should have been exactly that fluid. Instead, what was shipped was Mopar Power Steering Fluid + 4 which is MS-9602 part # 68218064AA. Mopar no longer makes/sells MS-5931 fluid according to my local dealer. I found that this new fluid is actually what is recommended in a factory TSB when changing the high pressure power steering line which has the new style fitting. I hope this doesn't destroy my $1,300 cooling fan, but I hope that Chrysler knows what they're selling. This new fluid is what I wound up buying at my local dealership at less than one third the cost of MS-5931 listed on Amazon.

Genuine mopar product. comes wrapped in plastic to prevent spillage. This can be used for transmission fluid as well. The MS9602 fluid is the same for power steering and transmission (ATF+4). The mopar part number is just their product advertising.

My 2004 Grand Cherokee manual says to only use this Mopar power steering fluid. I know there are other brands that meet the same spec, but I decided to stick with the factory stuff. My power steering pump was squeeling when I started up my Jeep. I noticed the fluid was low so I added a little of this and no more squeeling...fortunately it was an easy fix.

You should always use only correct fluids. Here is a link to a .pdf file for a Jeep TSB on Power Steering Fluid usage. It shows what Power Steering Fluid came with the vehicle from the factory and what is an approved substitute, if allowed. With new part materials and seal materials, it is important to only use proper fluid.

I try to flush the power steering system on all my vehicles every couple of years, just like changing the car's oil it keeps things in good working condition longer, it also helps prevent the biggest problem with hydraulic power steering, leaking seals, it's also cheaper to maintain it than fix it, although this stuff is a bit expensive. I don't feel comfortable using the generic power steering fluid from the parts store just in case the seals require a special formula, like transmission fluids or coolants. my truck is 15 years old and doesn't leak a drop. but I'm going to wait until the temp goes above the 7 degrees that it is today!!

This NOT the correct fluid for the WJ Grand Cherokee's with the 4.7 V8 and the Hydraulic cooling fan! This for later models where they use ATF+4 in the power steering system.

I use only the best fluids and oils in my vehicles, hence Mopar for me, to me there is no contest.
