This is NOT a genuine Subaru remote start! And it costs almost as much! Look at the picture offered, and compare it to the actual one on a real subaru parts website. This is a cheap aftermarket model. The Subaru remote start works from up to 400 ft away!

This was a great deal when I bought it, at $99 with free Prime two-day shipping. Probably because the only other review is 1-star for some reason. I did the install myself and then had the dealer flash the BCU to make it work. We were overdue for a 30,000 mile service, which is pricey at the dealer. But they hooked me up and did the re-programming for free. So I am all-in at $99, which is pretty amazing.

The install is a bit of an exercise in patience. I probably went a bit over-the-top on routing the wiring exactly as depicted. And deciphering the diagrams to understand that routing took as much, if not more time than actually routing the harness. But since I'm not a Subaru mechanic, I felt that sticking to the script was probably the best route to avoid re-doing it later or getting called out by the dealer for improper installation. Finding the appropriate connectors buried behind the fuse panel was kind of a task in and of itself. And my fingers were a bit sliced up from all the sharp metal dash support brackets. But, it was better than spending $300+ for the dealer to install it.

A couple of notes:

This only works on Gen. 4 (2010-2014) Outbacks or (possibly) Legacies with PUSH-TO-START. If you ain't got PTS, this won't work. You'll need a different part number.

You will want a plastic interior trim puller to avoid scratching the climate control module.

To start, this item is for the 2013-2014 Subaru Outback cars that have PUSH BUTTON START only (it may be for the 2010-2012 models as well, but I don't know what options those came with, they're in the same generation as the 2013-14 though...check Subaru's website to find the product you need)
So the price on Amazon seems to fluctuate significantly, depending on which seller has the item available. I was able to buy it when it was $75...retail is something like $350+ and I've seen the price on Amazon change between that range, so if you don't need it RIGHT NOW, keep an eye on it and buy when the price is super low (I've never seen it less than $75).
With that being said, I received a genuine Subaru part, unopened, in Subaru packaging. I installed it myself with little difficulty. It does involve taking apart half your dash though...There's a cover panel under the steering column where most of your wiring will take place, then you have to remove the navigation unit and the glove box entirely, this is only to mount the control module on top of the glove box and route the wiring harness back to the steering column area. If you want to avoid all that, you could probably get away with mounting the control module somewhere under the steering column and cramming the wiring harness in there too, but it would make for a messy install and there's not a lot of room for that anyway. All of the plugs line up, there's no cutting/taping/splicing involved and you don't even touch the ignition like some after market remote starters. The switch that goes in the engine bay is super straight forward too.
