Gator Bolo Machete
A traditional jungle tool updated for modern utility, the Gerber Gator Bolo is modeled after a classic shape used for generations in the Philippines to clear vegetation, chop food and cut wood. Gerber’s updates include an ergonomic handle shape, slip-proof grip, and hefty full tang construction for year after year toughness.
Designed to withstand serious cutting and make short work of everything from tall grass to small tree limbs, the stout, burly blade has a distinctive bulge near the front for added power in the swing. One part hedge trimmer, one part axe, 100% business.
Big Blade, Big Power
Small and compact are great for a daily carry knife, but when it comes to clearing a trail, you’ll want the heft and reach of the Gator Bolo’s 15.5-inch blade. Made of corrosion-resistant 1050 Steel, with full tang construction for durability, the Gator Bolo’s weight and shape create a powerful combo for any sort of chopping.
The ergonomic Gator Grip handle sits comfortably in your hand, offering a secure, tactile grip for confident cutting. A wrist lanyard offers an extra measure of insurance when you’re hard at work swinging.
The rugged nylon sheath keeps the blade from getting banged up when not in use, and features belt loop and D-ring attachments for carrying on your hip or lashing to a pack.

The heft of this tool felt great. I really enjoyed swinging it, and it performed really well.
One BIG problem (and gentlemen this problem is going to make me seek another machete) is that the blade is now CHIPPED.
That's right the blade is now chipped in two places! I did nothing but chop wood with this tool (cedar mostly, and some oak, and NOTHING over 2-inches around), and that has put two big chips toward the front of the blade.
I'm seriously disappointed. I started out the camping trip thinking that I was very happy with my purchase, and ended it thinking that I wasted my money! :(
What kind of crappy steal CHIPS from chopping wood!? Seriously.
That's why I'm giving this machete such a low score (3 stars). I think the quality of steel used must be inferior.
Gerber, I used to trust your brand name, but after you guys hitched your wagon to a guy like Bear Grylls and now THIS?! I'm sorry, but I don't think I can trust your brand again.
Very sad indeed.
This blade is thin light weight and not sharp at all. I went out side to cut a limb the thickness of a good magic marker... fresh tree limb... took several wacks with just its own weight. There is no need for me to have to swing so hard to cut a lil branch like this. I wish I could return this "TOY" and just wait till i bring one back from the islands. Save your money just go to harbor freight and spend 10 bucks... same sharpness and weight.
