I have purchased Gerber prefolded premium diapers before, described as 100% cotton, which includes the middle padding. I bought these because they, too, were described as 100% cotton. No mention of polyester. However, when I received them today, the package states "100% cotton diaper. 100% polyester pad. I could immediately tell a difference because the unpadded side pieces weren't as thick as the ones I already have. I just checked the Gerber Childrens Wear website and they have two products with "Prefold Premium 6-ply Cloth Diapers" on the cardboard package insert pictured. One is a five count and one is a ten count. But...the description on the website for the five count includes the word "Heavyweight" and the ten count does not. I need these to fill custom burp cloth orders, so I'll probably end up using them, but I wanted other buyers to beware.

super THICK batting in the center, but super thin on the sides. it makes it impossible to sew embellishments on them for burp cloths. the gauze on the side is so loose that it's harder to sew than silk--even after preshrinking. it's also so thin that unless your baby only spits up right on the center padding, you will get soaked. waste of money, have no idea what i can use them for.

We are using these for burp cloths and was hoping they would be the same as the ones we got from Babys R Us. They are not! The others ones were thick in the middle and the outer section was thinner, but still absorbent. They are also quilted. These are thicker in the middle, the outer section is very thin and they are not quilted. Spit up would easily soak through.

I was hoping the reviews were wrong because the packaging looked the same, but unfortunately they were right. Still okay for burping as long as you "aim" for the center and the outer will catch some dribble, but avoid if you can. Just go get more from Babys R Us.

For my first baby, I used Gerber diapers as burp cloths and they were GREAT. So absorbent and bigger than the dinky burp cloths sold as such.

I only had a few left so with baby #2 I have been hunting for the same diapers. First purchased a package labeled "birdseye" because it was all I could physically find in stores - immediately returned because they are a thin loose weave that wouldn't stop any liquid from passing through except right in the center where there was extra padding.

Next I purchased these. Much closer to what I wanted - actual cloth that is better at stopping liquid from passing through. However, these have extra padding in the center and apparently it was removed from the sides. So although the sides are real cloth, they are pretty thin. A bigger spit up soaks through.

I would try the type with equal padding throughout but I don't have the stomach to pay another $20+ for a pack of diapers that may not be exactly what I was looking for.

We use these for practically everything - except as diapers. They just don't seem to be able to absorb enough to use them as a cloth diaper, which is surprising since that's what they're for. They get totally soaked really easily. But, they more than make up for it by being useful for everything else ever - from burp cloth to emergency changing pad cover, and much more. Can never have enough of these!

I was hoping to use these as cloth diapers for my son, but it just didn't work out. I couldn't get them to stay on or cover both ends well enough. I tried them by themself with clips, and I tried them with the waterproof outer covers. They were too bulky for the covers and I just couldn't get them to sit in them well enough. I gave up.
They're really heavy and soft, and I wanted to keep using them. So, they became burp cloths.
Maybe I will try again with the next baby that comes around.

I purchased these because I needed a good absorbant cloth for my heavy spitter upper. These are great! They are very soft and wash well too (they do shrink a little but they are supposed to). Great buy!

After the first wash, these things will shrink in size and will continue to shrink until they're in pre-shrunk condition. After much use, the cotton will begin to fray and expose the padding in the middle. However, this is coming from five years of use already. I still have many of these diapers on hand and have not had to reinvest in any more cloth diapers. I've only had a handful fray on me and have had to do something else with those - such as stuff them into a stuffed animal or something.
