Like the men and women who carry our gear, Gerber is unstoppable. Decades of innovation and dedication have put us here. Renowned as a master of knives and tools, Gerber's problem-solving, life-saving products are designed with the unique needs of specific activities in mind. Today that includes much more than a blade.
Don't let its size fool you, the Gerber Shard keychain tool is the perfect companion when you want just the basics. With a shape of its own, the Shard has seven useful functions: small flat driver, medium flat driver, cross driver, pry bar, wire stripper, lanyard hole, and bottle opener. It is light enough to carry on your keychain, but tough and durable enough for everyday use. The Shard is made of stainless steel with a titanium coating, and it measures 2.75 inches. It's backed by a limited lifetime warranty.

The real one was sturdy and well made. The phillips screwdriver is precise, and the pry bar seems sturdy. The "V" shape wire stripper seems like it would work well for the intended purpose.
The second imitation one was slightly thinner, and the quality was obviously lacking. The "V" shaped wire stripper was more a "U" shape, making it useless for the intended purpose. The regular screwdrivers weren't flat either, so they aren't very useful. overall, I would consider the fake one pretty much useless.
I've included pictures of the original beside the fake. The genuine product is a great purchase, just be careful and get it from a trustworthy source.
The most valuable aspect of the Shard (for me) on a day to day basis is the pointy philips screw driver (this is also one aspect that can be updated - thus my four stars). This is great for opening up packages as well as it is sharp enough to cut through tape. I have also used the pry bar a few times as well. The flat head screw driver is a bit more challenging to use as the screw needs to have enough room to fit in between the 2 prongs...
As stated earlier, one reason I took off a star is that I think if Gerber added some type of cap over the pointy end, that would prevent it from sticking in my thigh - it's not painful but just a bit annoying if it is stored at the "wrong" angle inside my pant pocket.
Overall, it's a great tool - strong, compact and full of very useful features....and something I have used almost daily compared to some of my other tools and knives which kinda lie in a drawer somewhere in the house or garage...
I also use the wire stripper constantly when connecting new speakers in my car or in different rooms of the house. It also comes in handy for when an extension cord goes bad and you need a wire stripper for the inner 3 wires of the extension cable but you do need a knife to cut the first layer of extension cable. It is good for small wires only.
