This is a rather old album, apparently in the Public Domain in Europe and dating from 1961. However the sound quality is very good and the performances are excellent! Originally issued on the Somerset label as Deutsche Märsche Aus Alter Und Neuer Zeit which translates to "German Marches From Ancient And New Times." US releases are usually credited as Nord Deutsches March Band, while German releases normally carry the credit, "Norddeutsches Marschorchester conducted by Heinz Bartels" No information is available on Heinz Bartels and the name maybe a pseudonym. However the marches appear to be recorded by the North German Radio Broadcasting (NDR) orchestra headquartered in Hamburg Germany. This is one of two orchestras that provided musicians for the very popular series of "101 Strings" albums issued by Somerset at the same time. Naturally the string players would have had the day off for these military band sessions. The performances are excellent , genuine, and performed by musicians that know the repertoire well and care very much about the music. It doesn't get much better than this.
