Customer reviews
Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

1) The book is terribly organized and somewhat mimics a blog-style. The topics at different levels are in similar font sizes and are not numbered. Occasionally a comic/cartoon gets in the way of the reader to follow the thoughts of the author logically. The font is very small and there is not enough space in between the lines (which, by itself, it against a suggestion from the author). Cross-reference is abundant, although it is not a sizable work.
2) It is poorly written. Each section is of a "bite size", but some suggestions are already considered common senses by the job hunters in general. So those parts of the book are very verbose. The author might be thinking about extending them to the "right size". Advice like "use a chronological format", "Do not use 'I'" and "grab your audience and keep them" takes too much space in the book. Thanks, WE KNEW. On the other hand, attempts are made to make somewhat fancy but ambiguous statements, such as "you are interviewed if you are not rejected" and "your resume is not about you". Such sections are not strongly supported by real arguments or numbers. Rather, the author illustrated her points with single case stories that could have been made up.
3) It is impractical. Personally I rate a book based on number of action items I can think of as I read. I got nothing from reading the whole book. The suggestions, such as "think creatively" and "choose strong word", are way too generalized to be of any good use.
4) The author does not know the topic of hiring and job hunting well enough to write a book. Often the readers would hope that the author of a book on such a topic would have experience in several major companies that are REALLY HIRING for several years. Instead, with a BS degree in journalism and MS in an unknown major, the author spent another several years helping other to succeed, which may not be much more than resume editing and college career service.
Overall, if you have never looked around for a job before, nor have you read any books on how to do it, this book may help a bit if you have the extra money to spend. For experienced readers, The Career Guide Book for Engineers is a much better source.
Though the book is aimed primarily at IT professionals the tips that are spread generously throughout can be utilized by practically anyone in search of a job in today's marketplace, since many of the challenges addressed in this book are faced by job-seekers everywhere. For example it describes how online job screening systems rank resume applications in terms of their content, and from there goes on to suggest ways in which the applicant can adjust their resumes - most notably in both content and design -to maximize their ranking on these systems.
It is simple but practical suggestions like this - summarized in the `Tip' and `Doing It Yourself' sections that distinguish this book from other resume books currently on the market. Recommended.
Written in a logical, easy to read manner with lots of handy tips and real life stories, Pam's passion for helping people in their job search comes through in the book. Yet what makes this book truly different from other job search guides is that the advice and techniques presented in Get the Job really work!

It’s also about knowing how resumes are processed and reviewed these days. My resume was formatted for human eyes and had not been getting any responses. After reading Get the Job, with what I thought was a great resume (it had been reviewed and critiqued by people responsible for reviewing resumes and conducting interviews!), I immediately started on a re-write. Understanding that humans are the last people to see the resume, and not the first, certainly changed how my skills and experience were written and formatted. Get the Job showed me how it was done … how to optimize my resume for online job systems … and how to get past the first hurdle! Following the steps laid out in Pamela’s book, I started at the beginning building my skills inventory and focusing on what the employer wants and how to demonstrate that I have those skills.
Get the Job was easy to read, simple to follow and walked me through the process step-by-step. The layout of the Book, the arrangement of the topics, Key Point summaries, “Good Example” and “Poor Example”, and “Tips” were vital to helping me write my resume.
I highly recommend Get the Job to anyone looking to re-enter the work force or just looking to keep their resume current and relevant.

It showed me that it is not enough to rely on the shining previous titles, certifications or experiences. It is very important to take care of each detail. In the automated resume review world, you need to gather points and not to get dinged for small details. After all, it is not in my best interest to leave a weak spot in my approach to get a human eye to read about me, and hopefully get the job.
My recommendation is to save yourself the time by rewriting your resume while you are reading through the book, follow the recommendations and avoid the “poor examples”, find and use your own “good examples”, you’ll end up with a brand new you.

Supported by quotes from recruiters and Human Resource recruitment, its value as a "must have" career resource is clear. And written in an easy-to-read style, with lots of samples, examples, and explanation, this book can serve a wide range of job hunters. It belongs in each family's library!

Pamela Paterson has excellent credentials in the resume/HR/job seeking field and writes in an easy to understand way, providing good advice, tips and with many examples to assist in illustrating her points.
Although just over 130 pages in length, 'Get the Job' contains valid and useful information, with no filler.
This is a great tool to assist in your job search or career change.
