This book absolutely works if the worst thing that ever happened in your life was that you majored in English Lit instead of in American Lit. I wish Liisa addressed that there are some things from our pasts that NEED TO BE DEALT WITH! Things that decades later still haunt us and affect our lives, thus preventing us from moving forward in some areas and/or having any real joy.
I have read the excellent book Emotionally Free by Dr Viscott, over and over, and have used his brilliant techniques time and again. Just writing a letter and burning it (or even sending it) doesn't always keep that past regret/memory/person away forever. Sometimes people and situations reappear in our lives, and Liisa misses the more serious. Some past negatives pop back up, often much later in life. And that doesn't mean we didn't "do our work" or "TRULY forgive" or do anything else wrong. It means that some sources of disappointment and even rage are, by situation or just bad luck, somehow doomed to show up again, and bring back those bad feelings. For me, working with the techniques in Dr Viscott's book has helped me more than all the counseling I've ever been through.
So if you haven't lived a life in which your worst problems have been skinned knees, ill-fitting prom dresses, balding husbands, and a couple of job losses, you might need more than this book.. Everything in here I've attempted. It's a good starting point, but if you need professional help, please get it!
Superficial fluff expanded with paragraphs of self-questions
Insults reader's intelligence, you don't need this book to learn what are "silver linings" (a whole chapter)
Bottom line, nothing innovative, shouldn't have been published
Well written, concise and filled with real advice and positive reinforcement designed to assist those of us who dwell in the past. A short read that is worth the 2.99.
Doing the processes in this book helped me to release some long held regrets and even helped me to become aware of and release some emotional baggage I didn't realize I was carrying. So glad I didn't let the negative review deter me, I would have missed out on this wonderful healing process. She obviously deprived herself of actually doing the processes, could have gotten some relief of her anger and bitterness issues.
If you are like me and are very hard on yourself, because of your upbringing or for whatever reason, you will find a surprising amount of comfort and practical help in this book.
