This is another typo-ridden book about forgiving, forgetting, writing down regrets and burning them, and so forth. The author doesn't even suggest more active forms of "releasing," such as tying notes to helium balloons and letting them go, or having a Past Regrets Burial of tokens that remind you of past "failures" or regrets.

And this is so simplistic it's useless unless the worst thing that ever happened in your life was that you majored in English Lit instead of in American Lit. The author doesn't seem to understand that there are some things from our pasts that NEED TO BE DEALT WITH! Things that decades later still haunt us and affect our lives, thus preventing us from moving forward in some areas and/or having any real joy.

I have read the excellent book Emotionally Free by Dr Viscott, over and over, and have used his brilliant techniques time and again. Just writing a letter and burning it (or even sending it) doesn't always keep that past regret/memory/person away forever. Sometimes people and situations reappear in our lives, and Ms Kyle doesn't address that at all. Not once. Some past negatives pop back up, often much later in life. And that doesn't mean we didn't "do our work" or "TRULY forgive" or do anything else wrong. It means that some sources of disappointment and even rage are, by situation or just bad luck, somehow doomed to show up again, and bring back those bad feelings. For me, working with the techniques in Dr Viscott's book has helped me more than all the counseling I've ever been through.

So if you haven't lived a life in which your worst problems have been skinned knees, ill-fitting prom dresses, balding husbands, and a couple of job losses, you need far more than this book by Ms Kyle.

Many of us carry baggage from the past -- I've got a matched set of luggage when it comes to guilt, regret, anger at myself for "wrong" decisions, blah, blah, blah. I've heard a lot about self-forgiveness, and all the platitudes about "you were doing the best you knew at the time", etc. I understood these ideas intellectually, but most of it has not really landed, or lasted if it did. I'm pretty jaded when it comes to this topic, and long ago became pretty much resigned to my being down on myself for past errors, and guilt/regret to be chronic condition I'd just have to learn to live with. This book offers hope, because it has so MANY ways (in the form of a step-by-step process, each step of which makes you feel a little better) to come at this from a new angle. There are a few familiar techniques, but many i had not tried before. I'm amazed at how much lighter I feel, and I have not even done all the exercises yet.

If you are like me and are very hard on yourself, because of your upbringing or for whatever reason, you will find a surprising amount of comfort and practical help in this book.

Are you dealing with issues from the past that are holding you back today? You need to read this. Extremely well-written. And it's a quick read, don't worry. And it's only $2.99! Ridiculous, actually. It's packed with great actual advice and activities that work and WILL help you. I honestly couldn't believe how much helpful information WAS in the book due to it's length. I found myself really identifying with a lot of points brought up, and not even doing all the exercises yet... I already feel better than I did when I started! Definitely a good start to getting back on track to living TODAY and not in the past.

Overload self-promotion of other books, websites, coaching packages
Superficial fluff expanded with paragraphs of self-questions
Insults reader's intelligence, you don't need this book to learn what are "silver linings" (a whole chapter)
Bottom line, nothing innovative, shouldn't have been published
