Book overview

With a little bit of country, a whole lot of faith, and a healthy dose of sass, award-winning singer-songwriter Lauren Alaina's debut book, Getting Good at Being You, invites you to take the road less traveled as you step right up to who God calls you to be.

After years in the spotlight on American Idol and Dancing with the Stars, country music star Lauren Alaina has learned a thing or two about fighting self-doubt and feeling at home in her own skin. In Getting Good at Being You, Lauren shares stories about everything from lost loves to getting a nose ring to battling an eating disorder to grieving a loved one’s death. Each story leads to practical tips, take-it-on-the-road strategies, and encouragement for your own personal and spiritual growth.

In this book, you will be inspired to:

  • speak to yourself with kindness and compassion
  • chase the dreams that light your spirit on fire
  • cultivate rich relationships with family and friends
  • identify self-sabotaging beliefs and behaviors
  • offer forgiveness for yourself and others

Throughout the book, you will find:

  • behind-the-scenes photos from Lauren's career in country music.
  • lists, tips, and strategies to boost your self-confidence.
  • prompts to help you dream big and run toward who you are.

This beautiful book is a perfect gift for

  • women who celebrate other women
  • birthday celebrations or career promotions
  • high school and college graduations
  • fans who want to know more about country music stardom

Each of us deserves head-over-heels, can't-get-enough, shout-it-from-the-mountaintops self-love. By the final page of Getting Good at Being You, that's just the kind of confidence you'll have. As Lauren discovered, maybe life is getting good after all.

I was just a tiny bit skeptical ordering this book because Lauren is only 25....what life experience could she possibly reference? I was so wrong and very glad I didn't let this stop me from ordering Getting Good at Being You. I started the book on New Years Day once the fireworks stopped and I couldn't go back to sleep, and finished it by the end of the day. What a terrific book, motivational, easy to get through and compelling. Lauren can write, that's the first thing. Secondly, she has plenty of life experience and her truly beautiful soul radiates as she shares her life. Her love for family and her wonderful experience of God at her step-father's bedside as he was going to be with our Lord was a beautiful account of hope. Admitting you have vulnerabilities, learning to combat negative and harsh self-talk, with practical exercises are woven in to give this book a prominent place on any self-help book shelf. I'm so glad this intelligent and beautiful young lady wrote this book. It was a delightful read from start to finish, but I am also going to keep it to hand as a reference year round because life happens and Lauren has advice on how to deal with it.

Lauren’s descriptions of the events she shared are emotional and raw. The way she describes how she has become the person she is today is thought provoking and real. She has a way of viewing her life and the world in ways that I, at 45 years old, haven’t come close to. I’ve struggled my entire life with eating disorders and addictions. I’ve gone from one extreme to the opposite extreme…from anorexia as a teenager to a food addict and compulsive overeater in adulthood. I’ve allowed men to steal my joy and trample on my dreams until they became distant memories. But Lauren Alaina’s book opened something in me. For that, I am grateful.

Loved this book, just what I needed at this time of my life. Very inspirational, easy to read and relate to. Finished this in a few days because I couldn’t put it down. Also made me want to follow the authors life in music, which I listen to all the time. She has a beautiful voice and comes across as a sincere person with a sweet personality. Loved her Hallmark movie too. She’s a very talented artist, humble, and down to earth, believing the best for her.

I had purchased the audio & printed copy of this title. Ive listened to most of the audio. Lauren is so transparent & vulnerable… putting herself and her life experiences out there for everyone to learn from. All along the way, to help the listener grow even more, she suggests extremely helpful writing exercises or assignments or tools ( many “HOW TO… figure out what we really want in our life; and many others!!). Just writing this review reminds me that I’m glad I bought the book also, so I can go back & find all the TOOLS Lauren suggests. Lauren sounds like the “real deal” who has the ‘stripes & scars’ that got her there !!
