A great deal has changed since the 2016 edition of this book. Where once we assumed that 3D printers were going to be everywhere, we now know that they will be in many places, but it may take some time before they’ll wind up in every home. Still, if you’re reading this book, that means that you’re about to embark on a potentially life-changing journey.

Join the newest generation of makers as they wield the tools of digital fab-rication to transmute thought into reality. The CNC machine carves metal, the laser cutter etches wood, and the PCB writer harnesses the power of electricity to drive even the most complex of robotics. But there may be no tool of alchemy more powerful than the 3D printer.

Follow along with this book, and you will be initiated into an elite society of alchemists who are capable of transforming the very matter of the physical world around you. Like me, you will become a maker.

I can tell you from personal experience that learning how to 3D print may not always be fun, but it will always be rewarding. About the Author

Liza Wallach Kloski is originally from Guadalajara, Mexico, and founded LizaSonia Designs in 2003, a unique upscale jewelry brand and retail store in the Montclair District of Oakland, which wholesaled designs to 17 Nordstrom stores, in addition to 80 other retail stores. A graduate of UC Berkeley, Liza has won numerous design and business awards and was the main educational expert in Entrepreneur magazine's paperback book "Start Your Own Fashion Accessories Business (StartUp Series)." LizaSonia Designs was a successful jewelry company for more than a decade before Liza's passion turned to 3D printing jewelry.

Nick Kloski has earned the respect of his colleagues through hard work, dedication and vision throughout his 15+ years in the high-tech industry. Graduating from UC Santa Barbara with an English Major, he was hired into Sun Microsystems during the dotcom boom, and has held a number of technical writing roles at Sun, and more recently, at Oracle translating complex technical architectures into understandable ideas. Nick's skills go deep into both the technical understanding and the mechanics of 3D printing, and how this industry has the capability to inspire the world.

I was very disappointed in this book. I purchased it because I just bought a k1 Max for first 3D printer. So I wanted to read a book that would Give me the fundamentals. This book did not give me that information. It doesn’t contain any information concerning G-Code. Nothing about fixing a failed print, or other basic issues we might find our selves in as a new Maker.It was more of an informational packet. Something I would read prior to actually making a purchase. Of you have a printer already. This book will disappoint you.Watch YouTube instead. They need to get in touch with new users and survey the challenges we have.

    I purchased 3 different books on 3-D printing because it’s something new to me and I wanted to educate myself as much as possible. I originally purchased the dummy series for 3D printing and it’s not nearly as good as this book is. It goes over a lot of subjects that beginners will be interested in, and it goes over trouble shooting if and when you’ll run into issues. There is one other great book I picked up by the 3D print general, this one and that one are 2 excellent books, but to be fair, this review is about this particular book and it is a 5 star book imo.

    I'm not entirely sure how to rate this book. It's certainly not what I was hoping. I have been exposed to 3D printing quite a bit, but wanted to get started on the right track. This book is very, very, basic and most subjects are covered very superficially. It might be just the ticket for someone who hasn't seen a 3D printer and doesn't know the basic parts or process, but there's very little information that I'll actually use. Things I was hoping to read more about are slicer settings, support material, infill, etc. These things are mentioned, but not discussed in a 'how to' fashion. Mostly just a lot of admonitions to follow your printer maker's recommendations.

    If you don't know the first thing about 3D printing and are just looking for something to explain the various bits and pieces as well as terminology, this book might be what you need. If you've got a 3D printer and are looking to improve your results, this probably isn't going to be very valuable to you.
