This was one of those books I was able to close at the end and just smile about it.
Can't wait for the next book in the series!
I was drawn into Elise's life quite quickly, the author has written an interesting main character who is very likeable. As the truth is revealed I couldn't help but imagine how hard it would be to be in her situation, what would any of us do in that moment. The story moved at a good pace and I never felt bored by the plot. To start with I wasn't quite sure how everything would play out. There were quite a few possibilities and I was kept guessing if Elise would get her happy ending. Elise's back story with her mum was very sad and I definitely felt sympathy for her. It also explains some of her behaviour with Gary, her friends and her possible love interests.
Even though this is the second book in a series it can be easily read as a standalone book. The characters fit well into the story and with each other. The frostiness between Elise and Clare is quite a good side story and how they animosity creates problems with their mutual friend Sarah. After every situation Elise finds herself in I kept thinking to myself it can't get any worse can it?
Overall I would recommend this book its not a straight forward romance there are a few twists along the way. This makes it a slightly more interesting read than your average book.
Perfect reading for the weekend or a holiday, it will definitely leave you with a smile on your face!
4 stars from me!
Thank you to So Vain Books & Netgalley for my copy to read & review.
Ultimately this was an entertaining story about what happens when people fight who they are, drown themselves in lies, and what happens when the truth finally comes out. Telling lies always leads to more lies and it’s hard to find your way out. I adored some of the relationships in this novel and enjoyed the overall story. Looking forward to more from this author.
A bit of a lamb amongst the wolves, Elise met and married her first and only love years ago, only to discover that he is dancing in someone else’s fields. Arriving early at home one day, she finds her husband in a compromising position, in her house, with another woman. Devastated, Elise flees to her bff’s house, to lick wounds and regroup.
Though it takes some time, Elise’s devastation and insecurities turn to anger and a certain start to her finding her way as she navigates her newly single status. But OH – what a series of situations she is tossed into: from forming new friendships, navigating truth from fiction when dissecting a conversation with an obvious (to everyone else) player. Fortunately, her friends are there, even as a wedding approaches: they all do have her happiness in mind.
Fortunately for Elise, she never did hit that “oh poor pitiful me” mindset for longer than it takes most to apply lippy. She’s level-headed, even as friends and relations are getting married and pregnant: two of her long-held life goals that now seem impossible. She knows that life changes and moves forward, with or without her, and she’s bold enough to want to be present and involved. While I thought that she was perhaps too naïve and trusting early on, she managed to grow and develop a healthy sense of self-preservation emotionally speaking, and never really did lose her wide-eyed optimism when it comes to love and the future.
A wonderful story that doesn’t require you read the first in the series, but will encourage you to do so.
I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
