Bought one of these from Woot and gave it as a Christmas gift. Spent about 2 hours trying things, reading support stuff on the internet, trying new things, and finally giving up. First, the Gevalia Coffee Pod Brewer wouldn't prime as the instructions said. Hints from other buyers said it needed to be reprimed 15-20 times before it actually started to pump water. Once that got going, it took about 25 cups worth before it would output clean, clear water. It seems that the culprit responsible for both problems is too much grease in the tubes during assembly. I really hope it's a food-grade grease or oil. As we were starting to get clear water out of the machine, it decided to quit metering the water. It doesn't matter which setting is chosen, the 6, 8, or 12-oz size, the machine will run through the entire reservoir of water and try to keep going. While furiously pumping water it seems the pump itself moves more water than the rest of the machine can handle as water leaks from base of the machine and runs all over the counter and onto the floor. What's most surprising to me about this is that other buyers describe the exact same issues with the Gevalia Coffee Pod machines they bought. I'd think it has got to be a crazy isolated incident with all the problems in one unit, but no! Lots of buyers on the Woot forums have these issues. We've boxed this machine up and have ordered a Senseo machine. I sincerely hope it's a better product, and I hope I can get a refund on the Gevalia.

My first Gevalia pod coffee maker was wonderful. We purchased the Senseo pods at our local store and enjoyed fabulous coffee for three years. Then one day, it just quit working. Pod coffee makers are hard to find now. We tried the Hamilton Beach brew station to disappointment, another carafe style, then I found this one pod maker from an old reliable and I jumped on it.

Talk about messing up a good design. The pod release is an odd little dial that sticks, the entire and very large pod holder portion comes off and drips all over everywhere while you change pods, then you have to slide your tissue paper pod horizontally into position risking catastrophic rips. Of course, the dial again sticks until you hopefully get it locked into position. And on the many occasions you don't, this coffee maker will make coffee flavored hot water instead of the coffee one should be reasonably able to expect.

Apparently, pod brewing is going the way of the dodo. I have spent enough money trying to replace my previous pod brewer that I could have bought Starbucks everyday for a year, and it looks like I'll be spending more to find a decent single serving machine. Off to compare Tassimo and Keurig...wish me luck.

I owned this same model 5 years ago, I got it with a gevalia membership. I liked it because I could make a quick cup of coffee but it started leaking after a year. I contacted gevalia and asked if they would replace the coffee maker because I had a bunch of pods to use still. They said no so I canceled my membershop and threw the coffee maker away.

I saw this on Woot yesterday for only $9 + $5 shipping. [...] I decided to give it another go, without the expensive membership.

$66 is a rip off and I hope nobody orders it from here.

I got my coffee maker from my sister who also (thankfully) purchased it on woot for little money. After purchasing it she check the forum and discovered all the complaints people were having. When the coffee make came in she decided to see if it would prime and it did, it just took 30 min. Christmas morning we gave it a try. We used one pod set on 12 oz. all we got was light brown coffee water. we tried 8oz.-coffee water. 6oz-not any better. we gave up and dropped the whole pod in the coffee mug! what a waste! If the machine worked it would still have design flaws. the tray you put the pods in comes off but doesn't go back on very easily or stay put. all and all a disaster!

I received one of these brand new this year for Christmas from a Secret Santa. When i went to look at Gevalia's web site, i couldn't find any pods. I contacted Gevalia support and they said that they had discontinued this product and all coffee pods and had instead gone with Tassimo and their T-disks. They then had the gall to try to convince me to buy one of their Gevalia Tassimo coffee makers. i asked if i could trade coffee makers and they said that all sales are final. Then i guess the end of my business relationship with Gevalia is final too.

It arrived defective out of a factory sealed box. It requires "priming" the pump and heater. All this machine does is make a lot of noise - to the point of vibrating itself off the counter! It never pumped one drop of water during brew. I really do mean this machine is extremely loud! It is completely worthless. I have returned it and am still waiting for a refund. This is one of those Gevalia products that has been discontinued and warehouses and dealers have an overstock of. Avoid this product like the plague!

I received this brewer as a Christmas gift. I went through a little bit of confusion when I primed it the first time, so I primed it a second time just to make sure I had done it properly the first time. After the second priming, the water was clear and I was ready to brew.
It's a little difficult to get the pod holder on the machine correctly, but once that happens the rest is pretty simple. The coffee I've made from the brewer is very good and I can taste the many different flavors from the sample pack I have for it. I haven't figured out how to make a stronger cup of coffee, but I suppose if I doubled up on the pods using the "2 pod" side I would get a strong one.
It seems as if a lot of people are having troubles with their Gevalia brewers, so I guess I'm one of the lucky ones!
