Together New York City surgeon Paul Branson and his wife, Nicki, had a dream: to help the people of the African bush. After Nicki’s untimely death, Paul decides to honor her memory and carry on alone. In South Sudan, he channels grief into hope, caring for villagers and working to save Leza, a little girl with leukemia who has captured his heart.
Meanwhile, Jason Quinn, terrorist leader of the Lord’s Resistance Army, has deadly plans for the people of South Sudan. But he needs information to carry out his plot―information from research Paul did for the US government years ago. Quinn will stop at nothing to obtain this secret intelligence, even kidnap a dying child. Now, in order to save the ailing Leza and stop a genocide, Paul must go beyond his medical training to journey into a world of brutal terrorism and global intrigue. With only instinct and his faith as guides, how far will he go to save the lives of thousands?

Editorial Reviews
Review
“Don Brobst weaves together his medical expertise, passion for mission work, and strong writing to create a story you won’t soon forget.” ―Steven James, bestselling author of Every Crooked Path
“It is rare in the world of fiction for a new novelist to pen a book so sensitive, so powerful, so unforgettable. Donald Brobst weaves a story that proves the point: one man, despite overwhelming odds and personal danger, can make a lasting difference in the world. This is a novel that shouldn’t be missed.” ―Alton Gansky, author of Wounds
“Brobst is a talented storyteller, and he expertly unspools his plot to maximize both tension and suspense. He draws on his own experience as a doctor and traveler in Africa to create a world that feels both weighty and credible. Though the plot drifts uncomfortably into white-savior territory (Paul is deemed the “Chosen One”), the supporting characters are vibrant and fully realized. A well-constructed, immersive adventure set in Central Africa.” ―Kirkus Reviews

The spirit and superstition aspects, are not really the meat of the story, but it lent more color in the already kaleidoscope setting that is Africa. It was enjoyable and exciting to read. More importantly, it resonates the message that the good will always prevail, at the right time.
Though I shivered during an encounter with The Ghost of Africa, I saw how courage led to hope.
