Samuel L. Dexter is a Marine in love with his best friend and team mate, Daniel "Cash" Abrams. On Dex's birthday, Cash reveals that he's in love with Dex, too. This novella tells of the flash fire that is their love story in the heat of the Afghanistan desert.
**(Kind of a) Spoiler alert**
It's not necessary to read this before you read "Ghost in the Mirror", but it will give you a better understanding of what happens to Dex the day he loses his memories. Including all of his memories of Cash.
Faith packs in so many details, you'll think you've read a book rather than a short story. And you're definitely going to want to continue on to "Ghost in the Mirror" once you get to the end.
Thanks to Faith Gibson for supporting the veterans, even just through awareness by writing about one, but also by donating to their causes.
Faith Gibson has truly set the stage for the series and Samuel Dexter's story with this short story. While you don't have to read this before you move on to the Ghost in the Mirror, I would definitely recommend it. It serves well to give you the backstory on Samuel's time before he returns to civilian life after leaving the marines. Faith's writing is superb and her story telling talent, even in this short, is of the highest measure.
Bravo, Faith on yet another captivating read.
Thanks Faith Gibson & Good Writing
