From School Library Journal

Gr 4-9–This collection of stories is based on case files from The Atlanta Paranormal Society, TAPS, founded by Hawes and Wilson. Each of the eight selections describes the sightings and paranormal activity from the perspective of the observer, then describes how members of TAPS researched, set up equipment, and discovered explanations for what happened. What causes pennies to appear in the bedroom of two boys? Who is the ghost on the water and why do some ghosts have no legs? These mysteries are unlocked as readers follow the ghost hunters on their quest for the truth. The stories have enough elements of the unknown to make them spine-tingling, but they are more mystery than horror. A ghost-hunt guide allows readers an opportunity to experience firsthand the process TAPS uses to solve their cases. Fans of the authors' Ghost Hunter TV series will find these stories equally if not more intriguing than the show. Those who are not familiar with the series will enjoy meeting the ghost hunters and learning how to use the equipment. The easy-to-read format and subject matter will keep even the most reluctant of readers interested.–Denise Moore, O'Gorman Junior High School, Sioux Falls, SDα(c) Copyright 2010. The guys from T.A.P.S. are delving into the scariest territory of all - adolescence. Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson's first foray into the realm of young adult fiction is "Ghost Hunt: Chilling Tales of the Unknown," a collection of imaginary stories based on real-life cases investigated by the "Ghost Hunters" of the SyFy Network. The familiar T.A.P.S. logo adorns hats, shirts, converted Roto Rooter vans - now it graces the cover of a book aimed at a young audience. Tweens love to shiver between the pages from R.L. Stine's "Goosebumps" to the writings of Christopher Pike, and this particular installment is much like the T.V. show - more technical than emotional. The focus is on electromagnetic field detectors and electronic voice phenomena rather than blood-curdling screams and heart-racing panic. By employing a female point-of-view through new team member, Lyssa Frye, the book attempts to target both genders, but with more terminology than horror it is a better fit for a boy's bookshelf.

The publisher's sampler includes two chapters. The first is "Pennies from a Ghost," where two brothers keep finding seven pennies in their room arranged in the shape of a flower. The spare change appears in different locations next to the bed, under the window, etc. Lyssa fields the distress call on her first day at The Atlantic Paranormal Society office. The reader experiences the investigation through her eyes as the new chief interviewer. She has a panic attack investigating a dark basement with Jason.

"This is harder than it looks! Lyssa realized suddenly. She was talking to the dark. She was asking a ghost to show itself. Most people would be running the other way. But I'm not most people. I'm a T.A.P.S. investigator. Or at least she was trying to be one.

Okay so!!! First off, Jason and Grant do not have a major role in this books. If you loved how the previous books were written around Jason and Grant then i guarantee you won't enjoy this book. Jason writes about the numerous investigations they do in their lives. But,.. its not truly about investigations. You know they describe the location then they set up and after they start the investigation followed by the reveal. It wasn't like that. At all!.. Each story they did was started on a personal story before TAPS is even called. I started thinking I'm reading plain, old, make believe stories,.. but its Jay and Grant! They don't make "make believe"...... Another problem I had was a lot of the stories were recycled and changed up a bit, especially the story about Miranda and Grandma Helen. I can swear that I read the story in an earlier book. Maybe the first book I am not sure. I was disappointed. I expected a lot more adventures and stories from Jay and Grant that could span a couple more books, if they start becoming their main characters in their books.

I love the Ghost Hunters and this book was good. It wasn't quite what I expected and that was my fault for not researching it better before I bought it. This appears to be a book designed for people who wish to also become ghost hunters. I was just looking for stories about the Ghost Hunters team adventures and while there are a few, most of the book is geared towards beginners.

just like the rest of the Ghost Hunters books I enjoy reading this. I enjoy going through the experiences with this guys as they occur. I can't say i would want to be there in person I think I would be scared to death but this is a fascinating book and worth the read.

I have almost all of Jason's books and they are all well written. He has chosen his most interesting stories and weaves the stories together seamlessly..I never get tired of his story-telling and with every book I buy I know I'm getting my money's worth..

As a Ghost Hunters fan, and as a person who was pleased with Jason and Grant's other books, I was quite disappointed with this one.

This book is FICTION, and is geared toward children.

The back of the book contains a section on ghost-hunting, but since I'm already a ghost hunter with a group of my own, it meant little to me.

The best thing about this book is the "glow-in-the-dark" cover, and that simply isn't worth the money.

Having been a fan of Ghost Hunters since the show began, when I saw they had a book out, I just HAD to get it. It's written for kids and it's definitely on a kids level. It was pretty good anyway. Perfect for kids, okay for adults.
