Edge of your seat type of book with an intricate weaving of plot and colorful wording. Thrilling doesn't do 'Ghost (The Justice Chronicles Book 1)' justice in description. Author Michael Jack Webb dazzles readers with his winding interlacing of his words and plot. So, no plain word like 'thrilling' will work. Riveting, hair-raising, rousing and stirring seem to be catered more to describing this potential best seller. And it all starts when the first breath Webb gives to the pages. Edge of your seat type of stuff. Kate Justice is the FBI's youngest profiler, who has been brought in on a serial kill case - catch is, the killer is alleged to have supernatural abilities. Webb obviously is more than just a master storyteller - he's a researcher. It's all in his style of writing. The fact that Webb knows 'his stuff' makes 'Ghost (The Justice Chronicles Book 1)' a worthwhile read! Book clubs would benefit reading it. It might be a good book to read when you cozied up under a furry throw with a cup of hot chocolate nearby.
BookViral: A five-star read, enthralling, and darkly satisfying, Ghost (The Justice Chronicles Book 1) proves the start of an exciting new series from Webb and is unreservedly recommended. An atmospheric and utterly riveting Christian Suspense Thriller that does the genre proud.
Ghost (The Justice Chronicles Book 1) is the latest release from Webb and once again we find him on top form. Fielding a plot that works with diabolical effectiveness, Ghost isn't your run of the mill genre offering with Webb delivering characters both mysterious and compelling. Genre tropes are refreshingly scarce throughout, the action comes fast and furious . . . It seems a failing of the genre that far too often the atmosphere is layered to the point where it becomes ponderous and impenetrable, but in developing his narrative Webb demonstrates an unerring understanding of what will unsettle his readers. It's a quality that's strikingly evident in his War of Men and Angels series and it's clearly evident here. The chills and thrills are pitched just right to cause a tingling at the nape of the neck, whilst fully sculpting his darkest moments for maximum impact. As you would expect from Webb, his dialogue is measured, insightful and polarizing, quickly taking us to the crux of his characters. This allows for the obligatory tension and suspense, which is the backbone of the genre and the vivid creation of two superb new characters in FBI profiler Kate Justice and Detective Chris Schindler. The former with just the right blend of determination and vulnerability to build a series around. With the presence of the Ghost In The Darkness killer remaining prevailingly disturbing throughout Webb confidently juggles his way through multiple plot threads, finally bringing them together in a perfectly pitched denouement which is guaranteed to leave his readers eager for another book.

Ghost (The Justice Chronicles Book 1) by author Michael Jack Webb is the first in a new series. FBI Profiler Kate Justice is recovering from a traumatic experience that is medically impossible. During her last case, she was mortally injured and pronounced dead. She woke up four hours later and it has taken her several months to recover physically and emotionally. Kate knows she has a gift that has served her well as she profiles cases.
It is two weeks until she turns thirty and her parents have gone missing from their home. Kate has questions about the Ft Collins Detective who came to her home when she reported her parents as missing. Her parents have told her there is vital information they have to share with her on her birthday. Soon Kate will uncover shocking information about her life and purpose for the future.
Kate has recently been asked to come back to her unit and help solve the case she had started the previous year. The 'Ghost in the Darkness' serial killer is leaving a string of murdered and mutilated victims who are between ages eight and eleven. Kate requests that Detective Chris Remington be allowed to partner with her on the case. The investigation thrusts Kate and Chris into chilling paranormal situations that defy explanation.
I won't post spoilers, but this book is fast-paced, suspenseful, and filled with historical passages from the Bible and legends from the ancient tribes of Native Americans in the Colorado and New Mexico areas.
I read this book continuously from start to finish in one afternoon and evening. I do think if a reader is not familiar with Biblical scriptures, they may feel a bit lost. I have read the Christian Bible many times and I am familiar with the passages used in Ghost. Personally, I am thrilled to read a suspenseful book that delves into the supernatural forces which the bible teaches are present in our world. I anxiously await the next book in the series.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
There is something so fulfilling about reading a solid and enjoyable work of fiction that provides you with a deep look at history and/or factual information about issues that you'd never ever run into on your own. That's one of the reasons I'm a fan. The deep looks into various US cultures over history, the background on spiritual issues, both positive and deathly evil, would be interesting if presented in a non-fiction book.
But Webb pulls you into a mystery that keeps you reading way past your planned bed time.
I read Bram Stoker's Dracula while in my teens. I can still remember parts of that story vividly 5 decades later. Ghost is based partially on the legends surrounding vampire-type creatures from history. So, I was naturally pulled to this portion of the story. But he goes further with looks a other legendary spirit-beings who take over the living to do their evil. Webb points to one such example concerning two lions in Africa which was documented in a recent film. I ended up watching the film, and am now considering re-reading Dracula.
I think you get the point. I liked the book a lot, and continue to be amazed at the kind of research that must be necessary to do these novels. This is the first of a series. I'll pay for the next one, Michael.
First off, the scene is an operating room with the dead body of a young woman who'd been killed by a serial killer who was responsible for killing seven young boys. The emergency room personnel had tried to save her life but didn't, Kate suddenly realized the girl on the table was her double - but she was an only child - then she woke up!
Kate goes home to her parents house, greets them, and takes a long bath - when she goes downstairs, her parents are gone and there is a trail of blood to the refrigerator.
Kate, a year ago had been a Criminal profiler who was investigating the case of a serial killer who had killed 7 young boys and then had kidnapped Kate, blindfolded her, gouged her and shot her dead with her own weapon. She was pronounced dead and then resurrected 4 hours later!
A detective named Chris arrives at her parents house to volunteer to help Kate find her parents - he has sparkling amber colored "wolf" eyes that can see well in dark places, Amber herself has red eyes like an albino with double eyelashes.
Chris and Kate are investigating the murder of a couple when Chris startles Kate by telling her that he is a seer.....
