About the author

Marion Chesney is known primarily for the more than 100 historical romance novels she has published under her own name and under several pseudonyms: Helen Crampton, Ann Fairfax, Jennie Tremaine, and Charlotte Ward. But M.C. Beaton is the pseudonym she reserves for her mystery novels.

There were a few, very few, grammatical errors, but there were not enough to interfere with my enjoyment of the story. There was an instance of the heroine in peril, saved by the hero, and I am not fond of romances which rely on that to bring the main character(s) to a realization they love each other. In this case it was a delightfully funny way to bring scoundrels to their just desserts.
So read it to escape for a little while into purely entertaining fun.

One night she creeps out of bed and goes and sits in the banqueting hall where the ghost of the 8th Duke appears and starts talking to her. Alice is intrigued - especially when he takes her hand and he feels real and alive and human.
The ghost of the Duke rescues Alice from her drudgery, educates her and thanks to his late wife's jewels sets Alice up in London in the guise of a French Countess who has been rescued from the Revolution. Their adventures makes a fast paced entertaining read - even though they would be totally unbelievable without the ghostly element.
I loved the characters and the situations and the way everything works out well - though not how you might expect. If you want to read a Regency romance which is a bit different then try this - it is good entertainment if you just want to relax into something far removed from real life.

Seemed to be a filler story rather than an actual book.
More suited to a magazine story .
Very disappointing
