About the Author

After four years in the Navy, Jon Coon trained as a commercial oil field diver specializing in explosives work and deep salvage. He was lead diver and operations manager for the salvage of several large bridges as well as numerous oil field projects. His first novels, Thief of the Deep and Blackwolf, drew extensively on his commercial explosives and archaeological experiences. Ghost River explores the life of a public safety diver involved in the investigation of deaths resulting from criminal negligence and fraud by state officials and a major bridge construction contractor. Jon has extensive writing experience with a bachelor of arts in English and a master of divinity degree. This is the first time I read anything by this this author. It would have been a better story if the protagonist hasn’t relied on a supernatural ability to talks with dead people underwater as a major source of information in his investigations. As a life long scuba instructor myself, I enjoyed the integration of diving in the story, but the supernatural elements were a distraction. If it weren’t for that, I worked have given a higher rating.

Ghost River is a pretty good story but a bit difficult for me to keep up with all the players as well as names and initials for equipment and organizations. Gabriel Jones talked to the dead only under water when diving and then saw them off to their eternal home. Some were carried off by angels; others by the hounds of hell. I would have liked a different ending but we can't always have it all.

Divers and non-divers alike will enjoy Coon's descriptions of the challenges of black water diving. The unexpected conclusion leaves the mind reeling and the budding relationship between Gabe and Carol teases of adventures to come for the couple. Definitely a summer "must read!"

Ghost River is a truly riveting read. I knew nothing at all about diving, but after reading Jon’s book I have a new found respect for those who do. Ghost River kept my attention on literally every page. The detail in the writing was striking, I could honestly visualize the scene he was writing. The story will keep your interest, and the characters are so real, like I know them, like they live in my neighborhood, and I found myself rooting for them. I highly recommend this one, you will not be disappointed. Thanks Jon.

this was a really good read! Once i started to read it, the only reason i put it down was because the battery went dead on my laptop. it was very well written and kept you guessing. as the plot thicken u was sure i knew qhat would happen next, but, i was always wrong. i just want to say Thank you to Jon Coon for a well written story. i hope all of his works are this good. it was a good way to pass the day.

Jon Coon is as knowledgeable about diving as anyone can be. This makes him the best person to write a novel that is based around divers. The details are always correct. His stories are gripping and fast paced making his books easy to read and difficult to put down. I would recommend reading his material 10 out of 10 times!
