5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended
By Kimberly C on August 22, 2020
I purchased this book on the recommendation of a friend. I am not military, but the daughter of a Vietnam Vet who rarely speaks about his experience. This book helped me understand him more. I read it cover to cover in two hours. I smiled, I cried, I felt his pain. I highly recommend this book. To active duty, to veterans, to military spouses and families and those who want a deeper understanding of what true sacrifice and brotherhood really mean.

It is well written and vividly depicts what life was like for this soldier/Purple Heart recipient. This book is valuable for military, families of military or those looking to gain a better understanding of dealing long term with the challenges life presents after traumatic events. Sean Ambriz showed perseverance and leadership in adversity, this book serves as a glimpse into his life.

Please take a moment to check his book out, read it and recommend to someone who may benefit from it. Military, police and fire need more resources and awareness of mental health and the struggle to cope with their experiences.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Read
By Janet lopez on June 13, 2020
I spent all day yesterday reading this book. I tell you the weight people carry. Super proud of this individual for putting his life out in the open. To see a glimpse of his daily grind. To others I highly recommend this book. Not only does it captures the life of a Soldier, his struggles and mental anguish but it captures the importance of knowing how to operate, know your basic skills and functions in order to keep yourself and others alive. It definitely hits home and will help others see there aren’t alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars If You Deployed Read This
By Alida Rothmel on June 11, 2020
Absolutely loved it. Written in a way that very clearly described resiliency, leadership development, the bonds developed down range and the struggles of coming home. This is the first book I’ve read that actually talks about being more comfortable deploying than being home and it’s a topic that should be covered more because of the motivations behind it. The humor and humanity put into the writing help identify with book. I have had similar situations/issues and it’s always nice to know that you’re not alone. I firmly believe that any Soldier/NCO/Veteran can read this book and say, “Me too”. An excellent book that shows sacrifice comes in many different ways.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brings personal experience to life
By Tony McGovern on July 10, 2020
Incredible read. Transported me right back to the Stan. I wasn’t sure how I’d react, reading about the deployment through SFC Ambriz’ point of view. I’m honored to have served with such a warrior. It was pretty damn cool seeing a photo I took in the book and humbling to see myself in the first photo of the TOC. This book is well written, it pulls you right in and you become one with Ambriz on his journey. I never read, and I plan to read this every year, to remind myself of the struggles and hardships we veterans go through and to never forget those who have fallen. I’ve already recommended this book to several people and recommend it to anyone reading these reviews. You will not regret opening these pages, military or civilian alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars A leader that leaders should follow.
By Stormy White on November 9, 2020
SFC Ambriz’ Soldier brought SFC Ambriz up several times during conversations so I began to ask more. He talked l about his leadership style and said that SFC Ambriz was the best leader he’s ever had.

I finished the book in a day and a half and was extremely proud knowing that we have leaders like him still in the Military Police Corps.

Thank you for everything you’ve done and thank you for telling your story. You’re a leader that leaders should follow.

I reached out to SFC Ambriz and asked him if he could sign my copy of his book and without hesitation he proudly agreed. I bought the Soldier that told me about this book a copy and and now my wife who is also a former Military Police Soldier will read my signed copy. You’re legacy will live on.

Of the troops for the troops SFC Ambriz!

5.0 out of 5 stars A gripping story of one man’s experiences in Afghanistan. A must read!
Reviewed in Canada on January 27, 2021
This book is a gripping & emotionally wrenching telling of Ambriz’s tours in Afghanistan. We get to experience, even a little, of what soldiers experience in combat - the intense bond of brotherhood, chaos, humour, loss and sacrifice. He also details the sense of dislocation, fear and anxiety when they return. Ambriz is very open with his struggles with TBI & PTSD and his journey to overcome them. At a time when the US is losing an average of 27 current or former military a day to suicide, he shines a much needed light on this crisis. A must read.
