Editorial Reviews
From Booklist
Old stories never die, and many are resurrected as a mere ghost of the original idea. Just when you thought it was safe to eat marshmallows again, Tokyopop has released the further adventures of the gang from the 1984 horror-comedy movie, Ghostbusters. This manga-style story takes place after the exploits in Ghostbusters II and features an old nemesis who makes a deal with the city’s ghosts to bring down Peter, Ray, Egon, and Winston. One by one, the Ghostbusters are individually called away on a mission and “busted” by the vengeful ghosts. In the end, Egon must face down his past to end the threat. The hilarious dialogue between the characters is highly reminiscent of the movies, and the plot is packed with fun-filled action. The different artists are able to keep a consistent flow without losing their individual styles by creating a myriad of magical monsters thirsty for mayhem. This graphic novel will serve as an excellent introduction for new fans as well as a great story for those who have already been slimed. Grades 6-10. --Kevin King

Ghostbusters: Ghost Busted volume 1 is great introduction to the world of manga. The art work is incredible never before have I seen "The boys in grey" looking so sharp. The stories make some excellent reading with the quick quips you would expect to hear Bill Murray and the rest of the cast say if this were Ghostbusters 3. Thought much of the writing seems to take a page or two the later seasons of The Real Ghostbusters, were the humor did tend to go overboard at times. With the 25th anniversary of the first film coming up this is a fun way to celebrate one of the best comedy films of all time.

This is a collection of a few rather loosely-related short stories, most of which could have substituted almost any characters in place of the Ghostbusters. I mean, yes, there are ghosts, but the characters don't seem to share many personality traits with their namesakes. Some of the art is okay, and a few jokes made me genuinely laugh, but mostly, it reads as a somewhat confusing pile of juvenile fanfic. As a big GB dork, I'll shrug off the cost and add it to the shelf as a one-off curiosity, but I doubt I'll return to it often. In short, hardcore fans will be disappointed, casual fans will be disinterested.

The stories in this book were very child like and didn't have any connection to the orginal movies or cartoon. The characters have the same names, but that is about it.

The idea to connect the Ghostbusters with manga was brilliant, and I'm only sorry that there aren't anymore along this line. Don't listen to the haters who've reviewed this so far; this is awesome! The stories and dialogue are hilarious, and it was interesting to see the way that the artists rendered the Ghostbusters' characters, without tying them too closely to the movie actors. This is NOT like "The Real Ghostbusters", so get that out of your head. This is original, funny and will give you a solid hour of laughter. After all, let's remember folks, the Ghostbustsers movies were COMEDY, not serious action films! Get this book!

I don't get all of the hate for this book. It gets a bit slow in the middle, but it's hilarious through and throughout. It's not much like the movies, but more like the cartoon show. If you read it comparing it to the movies, it will most certainly disappoint; but if you compare it to the cartoon, it's awesome.

Worst idea ever! Seriously who came up with this F***ed up idea of crossing something like Ghostbusters and manga?
Seriously I would only think a bunch of sell-outs would go for the stupid horrible anatomically incorrect anime/manga style drawings.
I don't care if you are a ghostbuster fan, don't get it. If your one of those 13 year old anime freaks, sure go ahead and rot you brains out with it.
Story sucked. I liked the original ghostbuster jokes and ideas. This is nothing.
