As much love and respect the world had for this film back in the day it truthfully surprises me that such a shocking "4K" release was grotesquely whipped up and marketed at absolutely the lowest possible factors.
I have a Sony 4K TV, a Dolby Atmos system and a Samsung UHD player...for the most part every 4K that I have purchased I've been pleased with or blown away by; this "Ghostbusters 4K" is a disgusting example of bleeding money from people by taking advantage of a new thing. What do I mean, I mean slapping 4K on something that obviously is NOT!!!
Ugly UGLY grainy image, colors that run so bad it literally looks smeared, a very bizarre array of flashing in some sequences, I have seen videotape that is superior to this...just horrible...point blank...HORRIBLE!!!
I really don't know why people are saying that the 4K presentation is good...it isn't. This is a word of warning, this is a sickening ripoff!!!
To make excuses for it like it being an "old movie", that's completely silly, there is plenty of old releases on 4K that are choice gems, it simply boils down to how much effort is put into the work. For example, Night Of The Living Dead is a much older movie presented in black and white, the Criterion Collection made a phenomenal 4K release from that tiny film, it's actually one of the best 4K releases I have seen yet, age has nothing to do with it.
Instead of sending back the 4K disc I decided to do a comparison and purchased the regular Bluray release, the result...the Bluray is top notch, I have no complaints. In fact I would strongly recommend purchasing the one that I bought which contains both first and second films along with a collector's book. It has a "no ghost" sign on the front with the ghost holding out both hands, one hand he's holding up one finger and the other he's holding up two fingers.
The Bluray rocks, buy that set and you'll be very happy, if you buy this 4K you will not be.
Steer clear of this one, it is not what it says it is, it is a scam, I'm not sure why but it's strictly a false money grab. If you love the films then buy the Bluray. Heads up. This is a warning.
Thank God the Bluray exists. Thank God.
Well, for me it's the Zuul/Gozer. Especially since GB2 made it clear that the demons' consummation of their desire for each other had major consequences for Dana. I get that I'm not just dragging but also BEING a drag, but so so much western humor - right up until very recently - lives in the routine violation of female bodies. And once you start to see it and become uncomfortable with it, it's hard to look away or give it a pass.
On the other hand: Venkman categorically refuses to violate Dana, and, while played for laughs, the film explicitly acknowledges that Zeddemore faces a more problematic situation than the other three face when the four are arrested.
So - I love this movie. I own this movie. Everyone should watch this movie. But please notice the problem with this movie, along with the things it gets very right.

Ghostbusters is a thoroughly entertaining movie which has delighted millions around the world.
This having been said I regretfully have to report the quality of Ghostbusters 4k UHD is extremely disappointing to say the least, what I witnessed via a Panasonic UB900 4K Blu-ray player and a Epsom projector has left me in no doubt that those responsible for the release of this movie on the Premium format have really not done this film Justice.
This film comes with heavy dose of Grain in dark scenes and the shadow line detail is less than acceptable throughout the entire film with dark, black, brown and sepia tones which suffered quite badly.
If one applies extra Sharpness and contrast it will only make the picture quality worse and add noise artefacts and ringing in some scenes in the overall picture...and talking of the picture quality.
The overall quality is uneven from scene to scene this entire movie requires a full remaster and some of the special effects can be updated and improved.
I really had expected better from Sony Entertainment, I have been left somewhat disappointed by the graininess of the picture quality and the uneven quality of some scenes throughout the entire movie.
I believe in quality products and this 4K release from Sony Entertainment is certainly not one of them, if Studios continue to release poor quality 4K products then they would have already condemned 4K UHD Blu-ray to history...
Just as the American market put the nails into the 3D coffin of that format which has led to the decline of 3D content in the United States...but that is another story.
I've bought recently Ridley Scott's 1979 classic Alien on 4k UHD, a film that was released 5 years before Ghostbusters and yet 20th Century Fox has produced a stunning product to be enjoyed on this premium disk format and yet Sony Entertainment has not seen the light to produce what could have been a supreme product on 4K UHD disc, a huge disappointment and the worse 4K product I have encountered so far.
Note to Sony Entertainment...
Please do something about this.
Its fun, has a cast who have chemistry including Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd, and Harold Ramis.
The plot centres around a group of scientists who chase ghosts and want to contain them, during a period of ghost activity in New York.
Its very funny, special effects are good, and has moments I think when you feel for the main characters.
Presented here in a Blu Ray steel book, at the cost is an absolute bargain and something to keep on my shelf to show my kids when they are old enough.
Images included of back cover, and contents of inside. Simply lovely :)

Why not make Ghostbusters 3 rather than a remake.
I don't say reboot, reboot is what you do to a computer.
